Nose piercing ...now a bump

Had my nose pierced 4 weeks ago (yes I'm too old.. middle aged rebellion!) and it was healing nicely until I got whacked in the face at work last week, stud ripped out.(I work with severely autistic children)
I got the stud back in straight away but it bled and hurt and I now have what I think is a little granuloma... it's sore and lumpy...not the look I was going for.
I've been simply cleaning it with salt spray but does anyone know if I can help shrink it or is it a case of leaving it the hell alone?!

A chamomile teabag as a warm compress

Also go to the piercer to get them to examine it, I think sometimes different jewellery can be easier to heal with or I've seen little round discs fitted to reduce a bump

I think it’s worth going into the piercer who did it - good piercers are usually happy to have a look, even if it’s not a big deal, just to set your mind at ease.

Can you put a little padded plaster or something over it for work? Just because I don’t think getting it knocked any further will help!

Are you sure it's not become infected? I had my ears pierced years ago and the site where the earrings were put in started to bleed, ooze pus and lumps developed. I managed to remove the earrings whilst causing myself a lot of pain and never wore pierced earrings since. It may be a good idea to visit a pharmacist just in case. They can check the site and be able to suggest if you need to get it checked out by a GP (good luck with that🙁) The stud being ripped out may have caused a wound where bacteria has got in, particularly as you put the stud back in. If the area becomes infected you'd probably need antibiotics.

You're probably fine, but a pharmacist can reassure you or put you on the right path.

Ohhh sudocrem!! I tried everything but slathered on some sudo overnight and it did the trick!

I had my nose pierced a few years ago. Was cleaning it with a salt spray and after about six weeks I got a lump on it. Long story short, I 'popped' the lump myself. Lots of blood. I kept cleaning it and it healed perfectly.

Is your nose red and painful in general? If so, the piercing could be infected.

I would say, go to a local chemist and they will be able to tell you whether it's infected. If it's not, it's probably best to keep cleaning it with the salt spray. Your choice whether you want to take the lump into your own hands (literally) like I did.

Unfortunately I can't go back to the piercer as I was in Australia when I had it done. I might pop into a local one today though and see what they advise. I don't think it's infected as my nose isn't painful..just sore where it was ripped out!
And I' going to wearing a mask at work from now on... Covid is rife and at least it's less likely to be knocked out again (I hope!)

What shape stud do you have?

I had the top of my ear pierced when I was 12 and ever since, if I wear a stud with a back to it, my ear comes up in a little bump. If I take a regular stud and bend it to a right angle to keep it in, I get no issues.

Kanaloa · 06/12/2022 11:48

Ah, that’s a shame, you won’t be able to see your piercer then of course! I think it’s still worth seeing a piercer - maybe buy something though! I’d feel a bit awkward expecting a piercer who hadn’t pierced me to give free advice, so I’d buy something, even just a pair of earrings/new nose stud. Some small thing.

StillMedusa · 06/12/2022 12:30

So I popped into the local piercers and she was lovely... didn't mind at all that I was not buying/had it done there.
She was very clear on her advice.. no creams, compresses, soaks. Just keep using the Neilmed saline spray I already have, and don't touch it! I have been cleaning round it with the spray and a cotton bud but she told me not to..it just irritates it more. I'm to spray and not touch, and to go back if it doesn't look better in a few weeks.
I'm also going to wear a face mask in school for a bit (Covid is rife anyhow) to lessen the chances of the piercing being knocked out again!

Yeah, MN will tell you put all manners of random shite on it but as the piercer has advised, LITHA (leave it the hell alone).

My nose piercing had a bump for 5 months after getting it done. Then it went away and haven't had a single issue since.

Patience, grasshopper.

@StillMedusa did the bump go?? I have exactly the same where my daughter accidentally caught it and pulled the stud out. I put it back in but it has developed a lump!

(I appreciate this was 8 months ago but thought I'd ask!)

Boil the kettle, put a pinch of sea salt in an egg cup and top up with boiling water. Leave to cool slightly (test the water - it should still be hot but not scalding) and then use a cotton bud to press hot water around your piercing site. If you do this regularly (at my worst I was doing it multiple times a day) then the bump will clear. Don’t wipe it, just press the bump down with the hot cotton bud. Do it for about 5 mins or until the water has cooled.

This is the ONLY thing that cleared my piercing bump. My skin does not like being pierced!

Thanks! I've had several piercings done in the past and never had any issues at all, but then never had a child catch a new piercing! Will give that a try!
