Long waterproof petite coat….

Beenheresomanytimesbefore · 05/12/2022 09:22

My son has recently taken on a winter sport and after freezing on the sidelines this weekend I’ve decided I need something longer. I am a fan of seasalt (have one of their shorter coats) and have tried the Janelle but as a non slim petite would be nice to have something that didn’t make me look quite so teapotty. Something with furry pockets would be nice too as I find gloves restrictive. Any ideas?

Should add that I’m quite pear shaped so straight up and down coats don’t really work (too big at shoulders or can’t do them up at the hip!)

The Seasalt Plant Hunter coat might work? Or is it the same shape as the Janelle? I am pear shaped and it works on me.

@TheLette What a great suggestion. I've been looking for a warm, waterproof coat for a while and haven't been able to find the right style for me. I like that fact that it dips at the back (stylish). It also has an internal drawstring so it can look more sporty as opposed to the straight up and down - which really only ever looks good on ladies blessed with height and long limbs!

Off to order one now!

Namaste6 · 05/12/2022 09:56

Sorry - meant to add - having never owned anything from Seasalt - does their clothing tend run true to size?

Beenheresomanytimesbefore · 05/12/2022 10:01

Hmm I have previously owned a plant hunter and found it not a great fit but I may have sized up. @Namaste6 I find them true to size ish, they can be roomy but not if you’ve got sticky out bits like me!!

I am sorry to be a bearer of bad tidings but I was very hopeful of the plant hunter but it didn't work for me (5 ft 3, 16/18 with belly and boobs).

I have a Boden parka which is warm and waterproof but not long. Also a trespass coat. Neither very stylish tbh.

SparkyBlue · 05/12/2022 10:09

I looked at the title of this and was thinking did i post this while I was half asleep as I intended asking the same question. Desperately looking for a similar coat or even a shorter one if anyone has suggestions. I'm 4"11 and a 12.

Namaste6 · 05/12/2022 10:10

@Beenheresomanytimesbefore understood!! 😂. I may order two sizes and see where that takes me. Getting warmth and waterproof in a coat isn't too easy if you're looking for something parka stylish too. Had a drenching experience last week on a dog walk in my long Barbour international coat - warm but in no way waterproof! Lesson learned!

Beenheresomanytimesbefore · 05/12/2022 10:14

@SparkyBlue also 4’11’ but a 16 knocking on 18. Piled the weight on in third lockdown after a foot injury.
@lugeforlife i have looked at boden. It doesn’t need to be stylish as such, just trying to avoid looking like a sack of potatoes (not easy when I’m shaped like a sack of potatoes anyway…)

I’m petite and pear shaped and I found puffer coats were more flattering than parka style which always looked very square on me.

I have one by Superdry that they don’t seem to do any more. But I like this look of this one from Mountain Warehouse nice colours too

achillesshield · 05/12/2022 10:36

I have a Rohan Northshore coat, which keeps me fabulously warm and dry. I don't think they do that model any more but they sell similar, long waterproofs. Pricey but good quality.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 05/12/2022 10:43

Have a look at Lands End

Beenheresomanytimesbefore · 05/12/2022 10:45

Will check out northshore

i have had landsend coats before but find them a bit straight up and down so they don’t quite hang right on me

@Namaste6 yes I think so. It's difficult if you are pear shaped (often I'm a 10 on top and usually a 14 on the bottom) but a 12 fits me well. The petite is well cut for me. The only thing I would say is that the drawstring waist doesn't really seem to do much for me when tied in (which is surprising) because it sorts of bunches up the fabric which adds bulk to the areas immediately above and below the drawstring. To be fair I wasn't looking for a 100% perfect fit - it's my messing about with kids coat so just needs to be warm and waterproof.

covetingthepreciousthings · 05/12/2022 16:17

Have you looked at Didriksons ? I got one last autumn and it's been the best coat I've ever owned, totally waterproof, wind proof and warm.

FinallyHere · 05/12/2022 16:52

https://www.protected-species.com

Have a look at the possibilities. Beautiful fabric and the technical capabilities of serious weather gear

Mine lifts my heart every time I wear it. I even welcome bad weather as an excuse to wear it.

Beenheresomanytimesbefore · 05/12/2022 19:09

Both didriksons and protected species no goa for me. I’m just too short so the waist sits at my hips and looks awful 🙁

NightOwlNotEarlyBird · 06/12/2022 12:01

I bought this recently and have been wearing it for daily walks. Good for light rain but haven't tried in downpour yet. Fit wise, I'm 5'2 and it's past my knees so extra cosy. The best part is all the pockets!

Have you looked at the longer Didriksons? I'm only just over 5ft and have a long one.
