What low/flat mid heeled shoes or boots would you wear with these trousers?

What low/flat mid heeled shoes or boots would you wear with these comfy but fairly casual black trousers (see photo) I would be wearing similar tops to these to go to a nice informal meal/family get together/drinks with friends in a nice bar please?

I am mid 50’s (and definitely not slim but I would like to look and feel ok). I also don’t have a black leather jacket so what sort of jackets or cardigans would go I wouldn’t be outside long and what style of bags are fashionable these days for a Christmas night out (its nowhere too fancy dressy or showy).

Thank you

I probably wouldn't wear boots as I personally can't get straight leg trousers and boots to look anything other than unstylish.

With a slightly wide leg trouser I would wear trainers or I have a pair of pointed black flats that seem to perk up most trousers and elongate my short legs without needing a heal.

Cardigans are tricky at the moment, anything other than boxy cropped looks fairly dated. Although obviously they are practical and it's better to look warm than cold, so do wear one if you need to.

So in your place I'd probably wear black pointy flats, and a silk camisole with a cropped cashmere boxy cardi. Or simply the shoes, trousers and an interesting top / blouse. I'd add statement earrings and keep my bag small and dark.

Enjoy your evening!

I’m no fashionista but others coming along will be so …

Plain fronted shoe, flat slip on or very low court shoe?
As for a jacket, look for something like a biker jacket maybe in a bright colour? A jacket always gives a finished look unlike a cardigan! Pretty shirt or tee underneath?
Wear some bling, painted nails, bright lippy & perfume. Classy, groomed, confident & sorted. Have fun.

Do either of you have any images of the types of comfortable shoes or trainers you would recommend please?!?

Vega or converse.

Veja damn autocorrect

To be honest, my answer totally depends on how long the trousers are on you. Also how do you plan to wear the tops (full tuck, half tuck or no tuck)

RitaSueandBobtwo · 04/12/2022 20:24

Thanks I am tall and the trousers are usual length not too short or too long, tops probably untucked to disguise/help minimise my tummy but might try a half tuck.

I have one of these tops but have several other new or fairly new tops I could wear.

Probably some kind of sparkly beaded flats, either ballet pumps if your feet are big enough, or pointed ones if your feet are very small and need help emerging from under those trousers.

RitaSueandBobtwo · 04/12/2022 21:15

Thanks I can’t do anything too flat or completely flat as I just can’t walk in them.

Ah ok, so I would so pointed flats (or low heeled pointed shoes). Or trainers. Veja are the mum tribe standard, or converse.

A half tuck and a longer dress coat in any neutral colour(between the knees and thighs) with a scarf so you can keep the clean lines of the coat open could be great. With shoes I'd have a tote bag or bucket bag with trainers tote or backpack

RitaSueandBobtwo · 05/12/2022 08:23

Thanks all I was thinking along more casual not too warm or heavy lines for a jacket like maybe a biker style or lightweight unstructured black blazer if I can find one I like that fits rather than a longer jacket? Would both of those be out?

For footwear it does need to be comfy and not totally flat like a converse or a thin pump otherwise I just can’t walk.

Bag wise I must be really out of touch I have a couple of going out clutch style bags (from years ago as its drinks and food rather than a shopping trip and having to carry extra things) are those definitively out? The other thing I was thinking was one of those small brightly coloured bags with different interchangeable straps are they a total no no too?

Thank you all.

I think trainers whilst comfy would probably be too casual but wasn’t sure if they were still a thing? I go out so infrequently I thought it was just trainers and dresses that were a summer thing.

I have looked at Gabor, Ecco, Josef Siebel, Fitflop and Strive and can’t really see anything. I found so pointed loafah type things on one site and they looked too structured formal and uncomfortable.

Loafers might work, something a bit chunky like these from Clarks.

I really like the leopard print but these shoes look maybe too stiff and rigid a material to be comfortable and these probably look a bit too formal for me.

Any other recommendations for softer more comfortable slightly less formal looking shoes please?

Love a touch of the leopard print. I don’t normally wear black (most other shoes I possess are tan or neutral coloured) but as my hair is now grey think black might look ok for a change. Hence lack of confidence and don’t go out much.
