I treat myself to a few things for Christmas before this shit show came to light. I never buy designer, these are the only designer items I have and now they will forever be associated with paedophiles. I'm gutted.

I don’t have anything by this brand but I agree with you, it would certainly put me off wearing them if I did

bellac11 · 30/11/2022 21:31

I dont think they will be, there was an article in the Guardian the other day extolling the virtues of something else they're selling/have designed, cant remember the details

The issue with that ad got a very small mention at the end, almost like they felt they had to say it

heartbroken22 · 30/11/2022 21:33

I'm not fond of designer. Why wear something that is designed by someone you don't know. They could be a rapist or pedophile.

Flooper · 30/11/2022 21:39

I'd love to know how many people signed off on that photoshoot and said 'oh yes, this is the way to go. Can't see any problems here'. Absolutely bewildering!

As an aside, Balenciaga's weird trainers is the ugliest footwear I've ever seen.

That's a risk you take when you buy anything from anybody though isn't it?

The problem is when there is evidence that they are / are complicit in such things. People don't want to be associated with the brand.

I don't think I'll feel comfortable walking around with their logo now, especially as I have children of my own.

@Latenightponderings but walking around with their logo on your chest or on your bag sends another message. It feels like I'm carrying their corruption on me as opposed to a plain T-shirt.

Yes that's exactly why I'm no longer comfortable wearing the scarf / bag / shoes.

Don't have anything from the brand. Wouldn't consider going anywhere near it now or even buying or using anything from the kering group. There is apparently an overlap with stylists. Very disappointing.

heartbroken22 · 30/11/2022 23:30

@Latenightponderings what attracted you to the brand anyway?

blisstwins · 30/11/2022 23:32

Can you return your recent purchase bases and tell them why?

Unicorn2022 · 30/11/2022 23:39

The only Balenciaga item I own is a pair of black studded leather ballet flats. They are so comfortable, it's a shame.

PutinSmellsPassItOn · 01/12/2022 00:00

Tbh the blame / fault lies with the employees of Balenciaga who seem to have deliberately set out to sabotage the brand (( there's been other incidents with books containing paedophilic imagery in the background of photoshoots )) pretty innocuous unless you what names to look out for.

I've no interest in the brand but it will be interesting to see how this pans out.......also what the fuck were the parents of the dc involved thinking ?? 😳

Brokendaughter · 01/12/2022 00:16

Balenciaga, the brand for the woman who keeps books full of naked castrated toddlers groping around on the floor for their bleeding body parts on her desk?
or
Balenciaga, for the woman who likes to place young children in perverse sexualised situations paedophiles can use to get off on?

Wouldn't wear it (always thought most of it looked a bit tacky anyway), wouldn't be seen out with anyone wearing it.

Would assume anyone wearing that brand on from now on was declaring their support for paedophiles & child grooming.

When someone shows you who they really are, believe them.
That is who they are.
They aren't sorry they produced those campaigns, they are only sorry they got caught.

DeFacto · 01/12/2022 01:53

Honestly?

Balenciaga was always a bit disruptive.

@Brokendaughter just sounds bonkers.

I never liked it.

The recent hooha, hmm, not cool.

I honestly think it's just edge-lords being the same old same old.

You can read any old shite into things if you try.

MarshaMelrose · 01/12/2022 01:59

If I had anything from Balenciaga, it would have cost me a lot of money so I must have liked it. I'd still wear it.

Brokendaughter · 01/12/2022 04:36

OP asked, it's my honest answer.

I might be off my rocker, but I want nothing to do with brands that promote child abuse.

OfficerArrestThatRuffian · 01/12/2022 05:55

I'm so sorry, how disappointing. Are you within the returns window? Yes, to be honest I'd now look very much askance at someone wearing their stuff in the street and assume they thought that what had gone on is OK. I absolutely wouldn't wear it myself.

AuntyPeanut · 01/12/2022 07:40

Even if you are sceptical as to their culpability, to wear Balenciaga in this climate is likely to get you disapproving looks or worse.

AuntyPeanut · 01/12/2022 07:41

I don't think they will ever recover from this. Tip of the iceberg.

JustCakeInDrag · 01/12/2022 07:45

Can you return the items?

queenofarles · 01/12/2022 08:17

DS owns one of their trainers and he Said no way he’s ever wearing them again , which I’m really glad he came to that decision himself ,
i Always thought of Balenciaga current style that it’s targeted towards the younger generation, I don’t think anyone over 25 buys their merchandise,
thats why I was quite upset that it really took this long for social media to start addressing the situation.
the accessibility and attraction of the brand for the younger consumers , their association with mega stars and social media influencers meant that some influencers were making excuses for them.

Latenightponderings · 01/12/2022 08:39

I'm beyond the returns window unfortunately, I bought them months ago to put away for Christmas.

I keep seeing talk of people donating their balenciaga items to the homeless, whilst that's much less wasteful than cutting up and throwing the stuff away its still alot of money gone that I'll never be able to make use of and I'm pretty sure homeless people wouldn't want the affiliation either.

I'm not sure what to do to be honest.

OP posts:
XanaduKira · 01/12/2022 08:44

I'd still try to return them & be honest why. Wouldn't care if it was beyond the timeframe - worth a try & you'd be making a statement at the very least.

Failing that, can you damage them in some way so that you're entitled to a refund since they're faulty? Not the most honest thing obviously but given the brand, I wouldn't feel bad about it.

ChaToilLeam · 01/12/2022 08:44

You’ve paid the money now. If it’s got a great big logo then no, I wouldn’t wear it, but if not, then go ahead. I wouldn’t even know what the logo looked like. I’m sure many others wouldn’t recognise it either.

All sorts of unsavoury people make and sell things, it’s just that we know about this particular instance because it was a publicity campaign. Just don’t buy from them again.

Wakk · 01/12/2022 09:13

I would contact them and tell them I wanted to return them. Even out of the window they can't be surprised that people don't want to be seen if their stuff anymore.
