Do I need a smart watch?

I have a lovely silver watch.

Do I need an Apple Watch?

Was looking at Fitbits but I have an iPhone and a MacBook and am quite an Apple addict.

Not rolling in money but would be an Xmas gift.

I go to gym a few times a week.

I have no idea how or if I'd use it and can't work out why I want one other than they look cool Blush

They are good but if you are any way obsessive i wouldn't as you can end up being ruled by them!!

Then you don't need one.

wannarunfromitall · 29/11/2022 21:04

What do you use them for? I think

  • sleep
  • steps
  • heart rate
  • ? Text and call notifications (does Fitbit do this?)
  • something for when I am at gym doing cardio?
  • menstrual cycle tracking might be useful although I'm in peri

No

I have a FitBit Versa 3 and use it for all those things. It’s supposed to be able to log swims as well but it doesn’t, so if you’d use that feature choose a different model. I wouldn’t be without mine. It makes me work harder at the gym and pushes me to get more sleep and steps.

Theawkwardblonde · 29/11/2022 21:23

With you being an Apple user, I would advise Apple Watch. I had a Fitbit which I loved but the Apple Watch was just a bit more streamlined in in functionality with my iPhone.
Plus I found it more accurate for things like exercise tracking, gps and heart rate.
The ability to answer calls on the Apple watch is also great especially when trying to juggle an unruly toddler or in the gym 😂

JustCakeInDrag · 30/11/2022 00:09

Sleep tracking is better on Fitbit than Apple Watch imho. Fitbits need charging much less frequently so it is much easier to wear them day and night. You’d have to plan your charging every few days with the Apple Watch which is a pain.

Stevie6 · 30/11/2022 00:35

Apple Watches need charging daily, doesn't take long though so I normally do mine while I shower etc. I used to have Fitbit but much prefer the Apple Watch

Allsnotwell · 30/11/2022 00:40

I like mine

I set reminders - it vibrates
get emails
text messages
can answer the phone

You can set up wallow talks mode - saves shouting up the stairs and they can’t ignore you

Feel lost without it

BigButtons · 30/11/2022 07:06

Love my Apple Watch. Feel naked without it. I use mine mostly for exercises. But also useful to see messages etc. have used it to answer the phone and also call my phone when I can’t find it.

Shitfather · 30/11/2022 07:16

My lovely DS bought me one as a present. I find it a faff and a distraction. I couldn’t work out how it would benefit me during my yoga sessions. I like the step counter, but my iPhone does a good job of that. I’m not arsed about sleep stats. I just don’t need the utility that many seem to like, but I’m a simpleton.

AriettyHomily · 30/11/2022 07:23

No. I like my watch too much, went back to it.

EspeciallyD · 30/11/2022 07:31

I love mine, my only regret is that I never wear my beautiful traditional watch any more.

I use the fitness tracking, seeing messages, picking up calls when I'm not near my phone, controlling volume fast forward etc on airpods, apple pay without having to get my phone out, pinging my phone when I can't find it, the timer (use it all the time when cooking), one of the best things is for navigation when walking, you can have it give you directions so you don't have to walk around cities with your phone out. It has a fall sensor too. I charge it overnight, I don't feel any need for sleep monitoring.

RiderOfTheBlue · 30/11/2022 07:37

I have a Samsung Galaxy watch. Use it for all the things mentioned above plus alarms, timer, paying for things in shops, stop/start audio books etc. Very handy for answering calls when my phone is in another room.

ChipsAreLife · 30/11/2022 07:38

As someone who constantly can't find my phone the Apple Watch has been a game changer 😂

I really like mine. Mainly use it for workouts and reading messages etc, but mainly finding my phone!

BretonBlue · 30/11/2022 08:15

I have had both but currently have a Fitbit as it is smaller and more band-shaped, and therefore I think I can just about get away with wearing it as well as a traditional watch. With an Apple Watch I’d look like Bananas Gorilla.

carefulcalculator · 30/11/2022 08:18

I don't understand why people need them, I know if I have slept well, how far I have walked, what I have eaten - all this tracking is just driving obsessive behaviour.

WhatIsThisPlease · 30/11/2022 09:05

I've had Fitbit and Apple Watch. Much prefer the Apple Watch except for one thing...

It is DREADFUL at sleep tracking!! The Fitbit was really accurate, Apple Watch is awful. Every day it tells me I've been asleep longer than I've been in bed, amongst other inaccuracies!

I seem to mainly use mine for pinging my phone when I can't find it! Plus paying for things.

It is good though. Wouldn't be without it now.
