Hair thinning drastically - help!

I noticed my hair had been getting more frizzy, which I put down to again and menopause, but I have now realised that I am loosing loads of it, which is making I t worse. I don't know how I didn't realise earlier, but now if I put my hands through it, there isn't nearly as much as there was, and it's in terrible frizzy condition. Again, I know menopause can cause hair thinning, and I wonder if it may be partly due to stress. This year I have had a 20 year relationship end, had cruel and gaslighting behaviour from him, moved house, I run two businesses have 3 kids, one with mental health problems, and the cost of living crisis has meant there is a good chance I will lose my new home next year as both my businesses are badly affected. Anyway, had anyone any suggestions what I can do with my hair - both in terms of preventing more loss, and also dealing with the frizz. I am trying to avoid the hairdryer (but that makes the frizz even worse) and have been using organ oil products. It sound trivial, but the mess of my hair feels like the last straw and is really upsetting me. Please help!

Hrt makes a huge difference to both stopping hair falling out and the condition of it, in my experience.

I really like the Moroccan oil products which I think I probably quite pricey so that’s probably not what you want to hear

Sorry to hear life is so difficult right now. I know exactly what you mean about having hair that will play ball, because at least then it makes life that little bit easier.

Have you tried Colour Wow dream-coat? It's quite pricey but lasts a while and is the only thing that seems to be working for me at the moment. Whilst my hair still gets frizzy, it's not as bad as it was. Also, after every hair wash make sure to completely blow dry your hair. Any moisture left, will cause more frizz. Another thing I am going to try is multivitamins because I swear my hair was in very good condition when I used to take them. Oh and avoiding hair bleach / going darker instead.

This weather is the worse though.

Could low iron (ferritin) levels be the cause? You might find this thread a helpful read www.mumsnet.com/talk/style_and_beauty/4388784-Need-to-hear-success-stories-of-hair-regrowth-after-low-ferritin-Am-so-worried

Are you on HRT? It’s worth looking at thyroid and ferritin function too.

Low ferritin was the cause for me!

Low ferritin was the cause for me!

Also me!

Definitely start with a blood test OP, but specially request a ferritin level test, as well as vit d, thyroid etc.

Sounds like it's stress related, in which case it should grow back once the stressful period dies down a bit, although there's a delay with the re growth.

In terms of combating frizz, try a really nourishing, conditioning shampoo and don't just focus on the conditioner. Also think about what you put into your body, so lots of healthy fats - nuts, seeds, oily fish etc, but also a good hydrolysed collagen.

You could also try some scalp massage before you wash your hair, to stimulate blood flow to nourish the follicles, which will be what they're lacking right now.

Good luck! I know how upsetting it can be.

Thanks for all the advice - I'm going to look into all of it. I was on hrt, but came off it. Maybe I'll go back on again. It shouldn't upset me as much as it is, but it's just making me feel even more crap about myself. Off to google all your suggestions
