What to ask at the hairdresser - blow dry

Having gone to a cheap old lady salons for years finally found a more up to date fabulous hair dresser a kit two years ago. I pay for pretty much the going rate for balayage (£120) and then roots and toner (£70). Also have a cut and blow dry. I go 3 -4 times a year .

My problem is that I never know how to ask for it to be styled. It's really baby fine and looks flat if it's straightened but then if it's curled it looks tangled as soon as I step out.

What can I reasonably ask for in a blow dry? I'd like a little bit clipped back or a tiny braid. My hair is really fine and takes about 6 mins to blow dry. Not like a really full thick head of hair.

Or how can I ask for wave that won't tangle? More of a soft beachy wave.

When I dry it myself I dry it on a revlon one step and have a little volume and shape.
