Are there any circumstances in which you would wear metallic pewter-coloured (halfway between silver and gold) loafers? If so, what with?

A pair of a normally expensive brand have popped up in a second-hand agency near me. The price is good and I kind of like them but I haven't worn loafers for years, and I'm not sure that I even know how to style them any more. If it makes any difference, they've got proper, separate, re-heelable heels, not those horrible moulded nearly-wedge soles that some cheap loafers have.

Assuming they're still there next time I look, is there a place for them in my life? My style is usually either very classic or a bit quirky and I wear a lot of black, cream and taupe, so I think they'd go quite well in theory, if I could get past the "oh heck, they're metallic!" thing.

I have a pair of M&S ones that are probably like the cheap ones you describe and I bought them on a whim and have got loads of wear put of them... they went with some of my pale coloured long summer dresses and I'm still wearing them now with work trousers and jeans. Super comfortable and much smarter than trainers.

I have some rose gold ones I wear with jeans / leggings
I like them

Cranarc · 27/11/2022 18:12

I'd certainly wear that sort of thing with jeans or trousers and possibly with a casual dress depending on style/colour.

TheFutureIs · 27/11/2022 18:14

I had a pair of shoes similar to these, I wore them to death

ArmWrestlingWithChasNDave · 27/11/2022 18:15

If they were the only shoes left in the world and I really needed to go outside

carefulcalculator · 27/11/2022 18:16

They could be worn with loads of things, they sound really versatile.

ImissSclub7 · 27/11/2022 18:19

I had some and wore them with everything in summer. Went well with pale denims. Definitely would wear with denim. I felt mine were neutral so go with pretty much anything. If in doubt I always match the handbag to the shoes 🤷‍♀️

I love metallic shoes you can wear them everywhere. I have silver and bronze ballet pumps.

CoconutAmericano · 27/11/2022 18:27

They sound lovely! Id wear them with ankle length straight leg jeans and a grey wool sweater, that kinda thing.

ErrolTheDragon · 27/11/2022 18:47

They sound good. Silver and gold metallics can look blingy but pewter sounds more restrained.

TreesAtSea · 27/11/2022 18:48

I had some pumps this colour and absolutely loved them. It was some years ago but I still like that metallic shade so much. Very versatile colour too.

NightOwlNotEarlyBird · 27/11/2022 19:14

Agree with pp that they would look great with ankle length jeans/trousers. Would look nice with skirts and dresses too!

Ponks · 27/11/2022 20:35

Pewter goes with everything, love it. Get the shoes!

soulinablackberrypie · 29/11/2022 22:23

Thanks everyone. I'm pleasantly surprised that there is so much enthusiasm for these shoes! I will be going back on Thursday and buying them if they're still available - they have been sitting there for weeks, and I've been umming and ahing about them for as long.

If I were a middle-aged lesbian, I would wear them everywhere.

TruestRepairman · 29/11/2022 22:35

I had forgotten until I saw this thread title, but I had a pair exactly as you describe years ago - probably about 10 years ago. I imagine I wore them with jeans, as that's basically all I wear!

They were such soft leather and very comfortable. Don't know why I got rid of them actually.

Sickoffamilydrama · 30/11/2022 07:50

I have a pair of pewter brogues and they are pretty versatile and I consider them a neutral they sound like they will go with your style.

Oh and funnily enough my shoe choice had never affected my sexuality... Although maybe over been wearing them wrong 😂

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 30/11/2022 08:23

Pewter is my favourite neutral!! I have pewter brogues that I wore to death before lockdown, when I went into the office most days. Livens up black and navy no end.
