Oversized knitted jumper without any wool content

Thisismynewname123 · 26/11/2022 08:55

Any time I click on an oversized jumper that I like, there is always some wool content. I can't tolerate wool against my skin at all. Has anyone recently bought an oversized knitted jumper that doesn't contain any wool? Budget up to about £70.

Asos have loads…! And new look. You need to look at cheaper shops.

Befriend a knitter?

OP I have the same problem and Oliver bonas has some really nice ones, also asos and new look ie cheapy shops

tribpot · 26/11/2022 08:59

Are you looking for a synthetic fibre? In which case yes you should have no trouble in the cheaper shops. If cotton, I would add that to your search terms.

@Afterfire , I've looked at Asos recently buying jumpers for my teenage daughter. I struggle to find any that I like that seem age appropriate for me (late 40s)

Really? I’m mid 40s and get a lot of my clothes from there. Try looking in the plus sized section - even if you’re not plus sized- as you can size up and get the oversized look you like. H and M are also good.

Thisismynewname123 · 26/11/2022 09:03

@tribpot , not synthetic. I will try searching with cotton in my search term, but the cotton ones I've come across don't tend to have that same chunky look

Try looking for one made with Bamboo.

If you're a size 14+ then look at yours clothing they had loads the other day.

The Knotty Ones have chunky cotton jumpers. They're expensive though. You might get one on EBay, Vinted etc

Samanabanana · 26/11/2022 09:30

I am having the same issue OP. I bought a cheapie jumper from H&M not even thinking it would have any wool content so didn't check... It does and it's itchy. There's definitely a large gap in the market for decently made, wool free knitwear!

Littlemiss74 · 26/11/2022 09:36

Following as looking for the same

Beenheresomanytimesbefore · 26/11/2022 09:41

Try adding fisherman’s rib to your search term. That’s the kind of chunky rib I think you want (different to normal ribbing, knitter here!)

Icequeen01 · 26/11/2022 09:49

Try looking on this site www.goose-island.co.uk

They do non wool jumpers which are oversized. I have bought some bits and pieces from them and have been pleased with the quality.

noodlezoodle · 26/11/2022 09:50

Gap have quite a few 100% cotton (the cable-knit) or cotton/acrylic/nylon mix. I have a version of the cotton cableknit and it's really nice.

Try the men’s section in H&M, M&S and Zara etc

KnickerlessParsons · 26/11/2022 10:01

M&S have loads made from recycled materials

Wiennetta · 26/11/2022 10:03

I have linen and cotton ones from The Knotty Ones cotton from L’envers.

Have a look at Immaculate Vegan which is a marketplace, they obviously don’t sell wool so some bamboo and cotton ones there and it might give you an idea of shops to look at - for example they sell Baukjen and Komodo which both do non-wool knits.

And on the high street, for some reason French Connection always has some cotton knits like these.

Happy shopping!

Thisismynewname123 · 26/11/2022 10:12

@Samanabanana , yes, definitely a gap in the market.

Thanks for the suggestions. None of them are really what I'm looking for unfortunately. I'm a size 12. Really hoping to find something while the sales are on. As an idea of what I'm looking for, I was clicking on a couple in Mint Velvet this morning:

Free People have lots of oversized chunky options in cotton or cotton/acrylic. Expensive though. They had a 50% sale yesterday on some items, not sure if it's still on.

Lands End also have cotton cable type things.

Featheryboa · 26/11/2022 10:18

Have a good cotton one from Weird fish

lightlypoached · 26/11/2022 10:49

Have you tried alpaca instead ?

Very soft and (generally) not at all itchy.

tribpot · 26/11/2022 12:19

I would worry about a pure cotton oversized jumper, particularly made with a chunky yarn, might become baggy quite quickly. (I know it's oversized but you want it oversized the way it's meant to be!). I'd suggest going for something with at least some synthetic content to help it keep its shape better.

Cantonet · 26/11/2022 13:36

I really like these ones from the Cotswold Shed. Just cotton & elastance in several different colourways. They're often worn on Instagram & look good.
I'm just debating whether to buy the black/tan variant.

M&S acrylic ones look like wool and wash well.
this one is acrylic& nylon, and not what you specified, but looks lovely.

You could try the supermarkets too. Tu and George usually have decent clothes.
