Can it be done?
I have a lovely short white dress with short sleeves, a crew neck, and roses embroidered on the chest and I want to wear it!

No, sorry, it'll look naff IMO.

Can you pick up the colour of the embroidered roses instead? Red/maroon etc could look well.

murasaki · 25/11/2022 22:53

I think it would look quite 60s and cool. Depends on the shoes/boots.

Didn’t think of that! Festive

Considered a fashion faux pas in the 80s but actually I think it can be pulled off, not sure with a short sleeved dress with patterns on it though to be honest. The rose pattern wouldnt go with a monochrome or two tone look

Well that’s what I thought! I do have a 60s vibe going on (Claudia winkleman hair) and have a blaCk biker I could sling over the top

Nooo! Wear the dress by all means, but not with black opaques.

I think it does but only (as already mentioned) if you can go full 60s/mod. I’m struggling to visualise a dress with embroidered roses fitting that look? Do you have a link to the dress/something similar? I’m a big fan of being able to wear clothes all year round and like a challenge…

Hmm - lovely but quite folksy to go for a sixties look! I wonder about black boots (ankle or even a cowboy style), your black biker and a folk style scarf in a deep burgundy or similar to draw out the colour of the embroidery? With some boho style jewellery?

DillDanding · 27/11/2022 21:02

That dress is lovely, but too flimsy and summery to team with black opaques imo.

Salacia · 27/11/2022 21:03

Something like this scarf wise (ignore the price - more the style?) -

or this style

This

I disagree. I think it would work with black opaques but think you need to be tall & long-legged to carry it (ie not me!)

CraigDavid · 27/11/2022 23:07

I like this look. I have a cream fitted mini dress which I wear with black opaques and green heels. I always feel very glam in it.

CraigDavid · 27/11/2022 23:10

This sort of thing...

She does look bloody freezing now

DuncanBiscuits · 28/11/2022 09:02

I would absolutely wear that with black opaques.

In fact, I once wore a white lace mini dress with black opaques on a night out, and it had quite an impact. The desired effect made me a coffee this morning, 15 years later 😉

NoCoatAndFurKnickers · 28/11/2022 09:13

I think with a jacket and chunky black boots that would look ok. Could be a bit Courtney Love that way. Wouldn't go too delicate with the shoes and accessories as it then just looks like a summer dress you can't let go of in winter

LauderSyme · 28/11/2022 09:13

@DuncanBiscuits Love it when a plan comes together :)
