Winter skin care if you don’t wear foundation.

This year I’ve basically stopped wearing foundation (still love doing my eyes, love a lippie for a night out, and will do a cream blush if I’m a bit pasty of a morning, but can’t be doing with base anymore).

In the summer I just used my usual serum, moisturiser, etc, with some SPF, and then had Avenue and Keils pollution protecting/hydrating mists for the tube and office - however I’m finding the colder weather means my face feels really exposed without that additional layer of makeup and I feel a bit meh and dried out.

what should I be wearing to give my face protection from the elements and a bit of oomph in the winter? I’ve got my cleansing and retinol/AHA etc routine sorted, I just want something to keep my skin feeling hydrated and not so exposed to the elements throughout the day.

what do you all do if you aren’t wearing base but want to look and feel ‘done’ and healthy?

I use Bobbi brown face base on top of normal moisturiser and spritz with setting spray as normal! The face base is so so nourishing it feels like an extra protective layer on my skin. I also (bougie I know) carry face mist with me for those days it feels a bit drier. I love the Caudalie one for this, or even the plain Evian one!

I do use foundation but in the winter I up my moisturiser to a richer one and mix in some oil as well as my skin is fairly dry and I work outside a lot, meaning my skin can quickly become chapped.

Thanks@monsteronahill I’ve checked out the BB and it looks great - and agree I need to maybe up my oils as well…

I don't wear foundation. I just use Spf 50 every day then Erborian CC cream and I use a lip mask as a gloss. Love how easy it is

monsteronahill · 25/11/2022 19:02

Oo also laneige lip masks! They're so moisturising and they do face products too that are fab (the glowy serum especially).

mintbiscuit · 25/11/2022 19:06

I use a very thin layer of Vaseline. Enough to look dewy.

I also love the ceramide serum capsules from beauty pie. They add a lovely hydrating layer

Babewhat · 26/11/2022 14:39

Stupidly I hadn’t thought about beauty pie - I get lots of my staples from there already so that’s a great shout l…

Not to hijack my own thread - @imbacktoshowyoumydress @monsteronahill can you tell me a bit more about these lip masks…? What do they do that’s different?

I don't know if the langiege lip mask does anything ground breaking but they have gorgeous flavours and I love wearing them! They give such a nice gloss but are deeply hydrating. Compared to vaseline they hydrate for much longer. I have about 4 flavours, woops!

monsteronahill · 26/11/2022 19:45

@Babewhat yes those! I like PP have multiple pots - it's clear, moisturising, not sticky and smells amazing. There's a pack with 5 scents in for about £15 (they are mini mini tubs but perfect for having one in every bag / car!) and the standard lip treatment balm is fab too - it comes with a little spatula in the lid which is cute and useful.

Yes I think cult beauty or yes style have more flavours

Thanks for the lip mask heads up. I struggle hugely with sore lips in winter. It’s on my wish list! I love Aldi’s Rosehip oil. They did a run in late Summer/ Autumn sort of time and hopefully will re-introduce. Inexpensive, feels just lovely to use and adds a glow to winter skin. I know it’s more makeup , but my go to is a good tinted moisturiser or BB cream; loving the Beauty Pie tinted moisturiser best (and I have an Aldi BB cream which is a good all rounder) as it’s super moisturising, glowing, quick to apply, lasts well and looks like skin, but better. Or there’s a make up step up with the super ubiquitous Charlotte Tilbury Perfect Skin, so expensive, but worth the hype, I feel. I like a quick to do face/skin fix and to look like I’m not wearing make up ideally.

I'm the same as you op, couldn't be bothered with foundation anymore and my skin is all the better for it. I have added a regular vitamin C which I love and a night oil plus a drop of oil under moisturiser in the morning also.

GrowingUpIsATrap · 04/12/2022 21:21

I also use erborian cc creme and I love it. Just makes you look like you've been airbrushed, smooths all your pores and balances the tone of your skin.

I have the grapefruit one I use at night, and a daytime one which has a tint to it, they're both lovely.

Now that you mention it, I used to use vaseline all the time, and in winter my lips would get really dry and chapped, but haven't this year - so they must be doing something right.
