I am in my mid 50"s my hair is still thick but I would love some advice on style and colour.
I'm thinking of cutting it shorter but not sure.
Hoping that the ladies on this page can offer advice. Xx

I think it looks beautiful as it is,op ,I wish mine looked like this . I'm in my 40's and mine is so lifeless. I certainly wouldn't go shorter.

WeAreTheHeroes · 24/11/2022 18:43

I would go shorter, sharper and break up the colour with highlights and lowlights. You hair looks to be great condition.

Hairquestion68 · 24/11/2022 18:46

How short would you suggest @WeAreTheHeroes ?

You've got lovely hair, personally unless you're itching to go shorter I'd say keep the length and make the most of it. 🙂

WeAreTheHeroes · 24/11/2022 19:12

My reply disappeared - start with chin length and see what you think and how you feel. You look to have an oval face so will suit lots of styles and lengths. It would look great with more movement and the colour not all over the same.

If you decide to go shorter, I suggest finding a hairdresser who is really good at cutting short hair. Not all hairdressers do it well ime.

MerryChristmasToYou · 24/11/2022 19:28

Keep the length and get a few long layers. I think it looks lovely as it is.

Luckilylucy · 24/11/2022 22:06

Definitely keep the length. Add a few more layers of you like , it's lovely op.

Anywayups · 25/11/2022 12:13

I would go for a bob OP, long hair is very aging as you get older. This longer style is really adding years to you in your 50's.

Danni675 · 25/11/2022 12:15

I wouldn't change it. Your eyebrow is lovely as well 😁

Wishywashing · 25/11/2022 12:32

You have great hair and I disagree @Anywayups OP looks very attractive and young from what we can see. Woman over 50 don't need to have a bob or short hair.

Lettherebedelight · 26/11/2022 11:24

I think a sharp bob would look great and possibly go a bit lighter.

You're quite right, they don't, but the OP must be considering a change to post and I think she might like it shorter and it'll suit her. It'll grow back if she decides it's not for her.

I think it’s gorgeous as it is. I’d just have a really good trim. I don’t agree that long hair is ageing. That only applies if it’s losing its condition, which yours isn’t.

AlexandraJJ · 26/11/2022 11:39

I’d keep the length, maybe an inch shorter and go for shorter layers to give body and movement, your hair is thick enough to take it. I’d also break up the colour too with lighter colours

Lettherebedelight · 26/11/2022 11:44

This would look great in my opinion.

Bobs are do hard to keep looking nice, mine needed trimming every 5 weeks plus daily straightening. And you run the risk of the soccer mom look. I'd have a good trim with some long layers, and get some subtle colours sliced through it.

I disagree @Anywayups and you can't generalise that long hair ages everyone as they get older. Imho a shorter haircut runs the risk of being more ageing unless it's chosen carefully.

IrishMamaMia · 26/11/2022 13:52

I would go slightly shorter, with blunter choppy layers. So only a small change to freshen it up as I agree that you've got great hair :)
