What bag & shoes to go with Emerald green dress?

I've purchased this dress to wear for Christmas and to a party. I have narrowed down my accessory choices to either gold or a raspberry burgundy colour.

One of the handbags I've got my eye on is a burgundy velvet drawstring bag. Can anyone tell me if there are any 'rules' (I know rules can also be broken!) when mixing fabrics like silk & satin with heavier fabric accessories such as velvet & suede?

Also would it be too matchy matchy to choose a bright burgundy heel and bag together? I feel like I could get away with gold heels and a gold hand bag, or mix gold with burgundy for either the shoes or the bag.

Thoughts / advice welcome!

A christmas party is about the only time you can wear emerald green and burgundy together, so I say go for it! Very festive and glamourous.

I wouldn't abide to rules, just go with what you like. If you already have shoes that go, just wear those. Both bag and shoes matching doesn't sound like too much though.

I would stay away from bright red as that might be a little too much Christmas -ey (just my personal opinion). Gold and berry are both fine, I personally really like the combination of emerald and gold but whatever fits you best op. I would buy something that also goes well with the rest of your wardrobe and the material doesn’t matter so much. Unless everything is super shiny or glittery and you start to look like a walking carnival, it’s absolutely fine to combine different materials and it can create an interesting look (in a good way).

Silver is having a big moment right now, that might look nice

Navy looks stunning with emerald green.
I’d steer clear of burgundy though too much of a Christmas combo imho.
Gorgeous dress.

Not a real green dress?

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 23/11/2022 11:02

Burgundy and green is very elf like

Gold would be gorgeous. What kind of shoes do you like? I've been tempted to buy a pair of Esska sandals

Thanks all. If I went with burgundy it would be more of a raspberry colour. Definitely not bright red.

Not a fan of those shoes I'm afraid @StrychnineInTheSandwiches I think they're far too chunky for the dress and I have quite small slim calves and ankles. I think they would look very heavy with me clomping along.

I think I will probably end up going with gold. Maybe just a basic heeled sandal like these ones from Karen Millen.

Ooo that looks really nice! Pair it with a gold clutch and you're good to go!

Coffeetableposhbooks · 23/11/2022 11:58

Good absolutely. Burgundy will not work . You will look like one of santas elves.

I saw a fellow wedding guest wear a rich green dress paired with silver shoes and bag, looked really good. I'd go with that.

I have some silver shoes already. It's worth a try and a bag already so it's worth a try. Just always thought gold was a bit more Christmassy. Perhaps I'm just looking for an excuse to spend money Blush

I've seen some emerald green bags that I like. Would it look really dumb if my bag was matching? Blush

I'm confused at why we don't want to look christmassy at a Christmas party?

All of your ideas so far are fabulous OP, go with whatever you like the look of

Silver

SparklyMistleToes · 28/11/2022 15:26

Thanks all. I've decided to go the safe route and do gold and gold. The raspberry burgundy shoes do like quite nice with the dress, but I think they make the dress a bit too formal because they are silk and quite delicate looking.

I did try silver with it and it just didn't look right. Gold was much better. Can't wait to wear it all now Smile
