Soap with a good lather?

FiscalDragQueen · 22/11/2022 10:03

Someone has asked me to buy them some soap that "lathers up well" for Christmas.

It doesn't necessarily have to be expensive, just foamy.

Any ideas?

Pears lathers well, although for any soap the hardness/softness of the water is also a factor.

Nesti Dante is lovely, lathers beautifully and is nicely wrapped if it's for a gift. Lloyds have a good deal on a 6 bar set atm.

I like Dove, particularly the Shea butter that I can only find in Sainsburys.

FatToFitPart3 · 22/11/2022 17:50

The dove ones are best imo.

FolornLawn · 22/11/2022 17:52

Friendly Soap comes in lots of nice fragrances and is palm oil free.

APurpleSquirrel · 22/11/2022 18:02

Yes, whether you have hard or soft water will affect lather - soft water = more lather, hard = less.
Look for ingredients including coconut oil, & castor oil, as they create bubbles. However, a high olive oil content (like Castille soap) will be creamy not bubbly.
Avoid SLS & go for a small scale soap maker who uses quality ingredients rather than synthetic bases & SLS to create bubbles.
The Dartmoor Soap Company, Boo Cottage Botanicals, Hemyock Soap Company - there's lots out there.

Eleusa · 22/11/2022 18:09

Imperial Leather is very foamy.

TokyoSushi · 22/11/2022 18:12

Nesti Dante is beautiful for a gift.

Dove has a great lather, but it's not really a gift!

Love a good triple milled Italian or French soap! They are in plentiful supply at tkmaxx this time of year so I stock up.

TheFormidableMrsC · 22/11/2022 18:36

TK Maxx do some beautiful triple milled soaps in beautiful packaging in every fragrance you can imagine. Well worth a trip there. I get all my soaps there and they make lovely gifts. They also last for ages.

Chateau du Savon. Huge choice of fragrances, sent out in plastic free packaging . They usually have a great deal on if you buy more than 5 bars snd very reasonably priced.

RandomMusings7 · 22/11/2022 19:00

I second Nesti Dante. Lovely presentation and smell.

FiscalDragQueen · 22/11/2022 20:43

I am going to TKMaxx tomorrow. How do I tell which soap is triple milled?

Also love other suggestions thx.

Yorkshire Soap Company. I love their big bars but the glycerine ones are superb for the scent lasting all the way to the end. Lather well.

Savon de Marseille is triple milled. I suspect Nesti Danti is as well.

OddsocksinmyDocs · 22/11/2022 20:59

Pears!

Ooh I love Boo Cottage Botanicals soap. I’ve tried them all.

APurpleSquirrel · 22/11/2022 21:23

@DobbyTheHouseElk the soap is lovely isn't it?
I've done courses with them - so much fun & really interesting. They're quite local to me.
I bought their new Juniper Scrub soap & really looking forward to trying it.
The lotion bars are fab too.

@DobbyTheHouseElk 👋
I'm over in Wellington but have family in West Somerset & it's not far to go.
Nic & Ben are just so lovely.

I get all my soaps from Elsie Moss. Beautiful soaps, beautiful lather and beautiful packaging. Especially for gifting.

NESTI DANTE Portofino Soap. In fact ALL of the Nesti Dante soaps. Rich, beautifully scented lather. My favourite luxury soap.
