ME and EM - feedback in my first order!

I had some very helpful advice here on a recent thread I started on ME and EM. I decided to order a short green velour dress that looked lovely (to me! ) on the website and I thought would be perfect for me as I am short and skinny. I wanted casual but a bit glam.

What a disappointment! I looked like a green Christmas elf. Teen dd tried it on - she is tall and willowy and gorgeous - but she also looked like an elf. She said that it was like one of those stretchy dresses she had when she was six… I think I was just expecting something different at that price point.

The hunt continues…

Nooooooo i want the Red velor one but i must admit even the photos didnt do much to inspire £300 of confidence in how heavy the fabric was or was not 🤦‍♀️

I love that one but I don’t think I would get much wear out of it as I wanted something slightly more casual.

Someone on another S&B dress thread was very sniffy about some of the cheaper dress recommendations, but I have a theory that you don't have to pay £££ to get a nice glam dress suitable for Xmas.

@Notcontent , I'd look at George or New Look. If it's for a christmas party, you'll hardly wear it.
The elf dress would definitely get you noticed and you can't say it's not christmassy.

There’s a lovely silver or forest green wrap style sequin dress at New Look.

All you need are leggings and ankle boots to do the full elf, I also have a dress that does this but I embrace my inner elf

I really like it. I am going to wear it to a December wedding with glittery boots. I was considering a white/cream faux fur jacket but a) the bride has requested we don't wear white (I think a white jacket over a red dress is prob OK, but don't want to risk it); and b) it may look a bit too much like fancy dress Mother Christmas!
I have a pale grey faux fur jacket on order instead.

Oh it does look like a costume even in their own images, I'm sorry to say! Doesn't look like it's very thick for the price either.

So disappointing when you treat yourself to something and it's a let down.

It has a touch of handmaids tale about it don't you think?

Believe me with an hourglass figure, 34H boobs and the zip part way undone it is far from asexual

The neck of it reminds me of a Wyse dress I've just got, they have it in velvet and corduroy. It's a midi though.
