Wigs?

I'm a early 40s white woman who needs to start experimenting with wigs I feel.

Bad health has given me see through patches all over my crown and temples and is making me feel rubbish.

Does anyone have any recommendations for cheap but decent wigs you can buy on amazon or the like? I am still housebound with illness, the ideal thing to do would be to go to a wigshop and try on their wigs but I don't have the energy or robustness at the minute.

Mainly I want to see if I can bear to wear a wig for x number of hours a day, and to look in the mirror without seeing the damage all the medication I've taken has done on me.

I'm naturally mouse coloured which I hate, but have the skin tone to go darker or very light ashy blonde. I wouldn't want any longer than a bob.

So if anyone has any recommendations I would love to hear them.

I had a wig, following chemo. I found a wig shop who were brilliant. They booked an hour's consultation and were very perceptive to my needs. I spent the time, discussing different types, trying different styles on, aftercare etc.

It was stress free, they did all the running around, if you can just get yourself there.

How about a wig topper?

MrsDeWinter · 21/11/2022 13:55

Thank you, the topper could be an idea, but the temples are so thin they are see through, from behind my ear to my face, iykwim.

I'd love to go and get a proper fitting but it's just not possible atm. Maybe I should just wait until it is and not worry so much about it when I'm not seeing that many people anyway.

Thank you both x

Have you considered contacting a wig shop and asking if they do home consultations?

BobbyBobbyBobby · 21/11/2022 14:48

This time of year you can wear headscarf’s work in all kinds of stylish ways.

A list hair in Kensington. Pricey but they'll style it for you and it'll look real.

Lullabellz has some lovely wigs, depending what style you're looking for.

Simply wigs are an excellent online wig suplier. They give great advice too. They have lots to choose from.

You might find this thread from a few days ago. Lots of helpful info from people already wearing wigs www.mumsnet.com/talk/style_and_beauty/4681162-alopecia-wigs-and-how-to-talk-about-it?page=1

tbh I’d be wary of Amazon for your first rodeo. You get a lot of cosplay wigs on there and they can have very poor, itchy insides. When you don’t know what you are doing, they can give you a bad first impression that puts you off. For a first wig, I’d be tempted to go for the cheaper end of ‘good’ wigs - so something like Jon Renau Natalie or Noriko Skye.

ilovecherries · 23/11/2022 15:13

Posted too soon…if you want a bob Jon Renau Blair is also worth a look - it’s very lightweight. Jon Renau Ignite has a lace front (so nice hairline), but it’s very short at the back so it doesn’t work well if you still have your own hair. Because cheaper end wigs like these don’t have what’s called monofilament partings (designed to give you a very natural looking parting), you are better with what’s called a shaded or rooted colour as it confuses the eye. After looking in my extensive wig cupboard, you might also want to look at Rae by Noriko. It does have a lace front and decent parting and iced blond is a nice, cool blonde. Hope that helps.

www.thehairsite.shop has great cheap lace front wigs, I got one for my self last year. Hope this helps.
