Christmas outfit suggestions

I need to pick your brains. I have a Christmas party to attend and a New Year’s Eve event in a European city and I need an outfit.
The thing is I am waiting for some orthopaedic shoes, well trainers to be made and in the meantime can only tolerate wearing one pair of black trainers. I can possibly wear some suede ankle boots for the Christmas do but definitely not any shoes.
So my thinking is short dresses are out so I was thinking maybe wearing a midi dress or buying a sparkly top to wear with some black cropped wide leg trousers. Or maybe look for a whole new outfit? I have about £150 to spend as I haven’t bought any clothes since late summer. I am happy to buy or create 2 different outfits.
I am 53, five feet one and a size 16. I don’t like anything sleeveless and can’t get on with wrap dresses.
The Christmas do is a dress to impress event but I’m not aiming for that more of a dress to at least look semi ok.

Wide leg trousers (the M&S ones everyone raves about are fab) with a nice top? They are wide enough your footwear wouldn’t be seen.

Totally agree, wide legged trousers and an eye-catching top, I like this one but I've extra long arms do the sleeves wouldn't be as long on me www.asos.com/asos-design/asos-design-cowl-neck-long-sleeve-blouse-with-collar-in-cream/prd/202477708?clr=cream&colourWayId=202477731&SearchQuery=party+tops
