You’re going to the Ivy Brasserie with friends for lunch. What do you wear? I need inspiration to buy a new outfit! I’m tall and a size 14.

Anything you want!

I wore a zebra print maxi dress with vans and a denim jacket when I went to the Ivy brasserie. There were people wearing all sorts.

Eleusa · 20/11/2022 18:18

Literally anything. Jeans and a nice top?

MassiveSalad22 · 20/11/2022 18:19

Anything really, I’ve seen all sorts there. Smart casual dress, jeans and top. It’s just a chain really.

BlueKaftan · 20/11/2022 18:20

Nice black trousers and a blouse with a belted cardigan or a midi dress with tights and ankle boots?

Benjispruce4 · 20/11/2022 18:20

It’s not like The Ivy in London. Just a chain. Wear what makes you feel good.

NeedAHoliday2021 · 20/11/2022 18:21

For my birthday I wore a dress but we’re going again next Friday after ice skating so probably smart jeans.

itsnotdeep · 20/11/2022 18:21

Anything, but if you're looking to spend money, I'd get a dress from Me& Em I think.

It's not especially smart though and jeans would be fine.

Tulipomania · 20/11/2022 18:22

Are you going to the original one in Soho or just a branch of the chain?

It's not that smart, but if you want to dress up that's fine - the decor in the ones I've been to is quite glammed up.

MolesOnPoles · 20/11/2022 18:23

Whatever. It’s nice, but basically Cafe Rouge with a better menu.

GetOffTheTableMabel · 20/11/2022 18:25

It’s really not fancy. It’s a chain brasserie. I always just wear jeans. I would probably wear smart flared ones in a dark wash. Smart pointed toe footwear poking out. Nice shirt or blazer on top. Start with your feet and work up, I probably wouldn’t wear trainers but that’s only because I enjoy putting heels on occasionally. You really can wear what you want.

whiteroseredrose · 20/11/2022 18:25

I always wear jeans, boots a top and a cardi. It is fine in the Ivy Oxford and Manchester.

Peedoffo · 20/11/2022 18:29

Anything you want it's a chain not a Michelin. Even a Michelin you can go in smart casual if you want.

FishnetsNightdressCrisis · 20/11/2022 18:43

It's a chain but it's hardly KFC so if you do fancy wearing something nice you won't look out of place at all. I love Ivy Brasseries, really nice food and atmosphere every time I've been.

FlounderingFruitcake · 20/11/2022 18:48

Whatever you want. If you want to dress up then do it! But equally you’d be fine in jeans and a jumper. It’s a chain, a very nice one, but it’s not formal, definitely not at lunchtime and you usually see all sorts in there. Enjoy!

Floisme · 20/11/2022 18:50

I was in one this summer. I wore Toast wide leg cotton trousers and a silk shirt, which is my gets-me-into-most-places outfit. I would say most women were in floral dresses, a couple in jumpsuits. I hardly saw any jeans but then it was probably too hot for denim that day. This was for a Sunday lunch. It was certainly a bit swankier than the Cafe Rouge round our way, but not in the least intimidating. Have a lovely time.

titchy · 20/11/2022 18:56

What would you wear to Pizza Express? That's your answer!

ZenNudist · 20/11/2022 19:01

Last time i went it was summer and we all wore dresses because it was hot. Choose an outfit that suits you. If I were going tomorrow I'd wear a leopard print shirt dress from hush with massive sleeves and clunky back high ankle boots and a long black coat, tobacco coloured scarf as its cold.

Or my fave got to outfit for casual drinking and food in Manchester in the day: black jeans, leopard print collarless shirt popover thing, black leather jacket then massive scarf in autumnal colours because it's too cold now for a leather jacket but it looks cool. Tobacco coloured gloves and a hat for outdoors.

I've just bought a green velvet jumpsuit from hush but I think that's a bit party for the ivy. Maybe with black suede pointy heels boots and a black velvet blazer. Im only thinking about clothes ive got. A bright pink velvet blazer would be nicer.

Hardly!

ZenNudist · 20/11/2022 19:10

Thinking more about my clothes maybe the black leather look skirt and animal print brown shirt. Black tights and clumpy black boots. Channelling bet lynch but it's a look I like.

declutteringmymind · 20/11/2022 19:12

Understated smart casual. A pretty dress, jeans and a blazer, maxi with a biker etc.

KnickerlessParsons · 20/11/2022 19:14

It's not the one in Glasgow is it? Their hygiene and H&S is abysmal.

Bretonstrip · 20/11/2022 19:16

I hate this trend of taking something which is out of the ordinary for most people and being all “oh the Ivy it’s hardly anything special” bullshit

Maybe it isn’t for you but for the majority of people it is

Dress up OP, dress down, wear what you like and enjoy yourself

Porcinimushroom · 20/11/2022 19:17

I think uou need to manage your expectations it’s just a chain you don’t need to get dressed up.. it’s like going to zizzi or similar.

Agreed. I'd class a night at the Ivy Brassiere a treat regardless of it being a chain.

God forbid somebody wore something nice to go out for dinner?

frozengoose · 20/11/2022 19:19

I like them.
But they aren't particularly smart places ( only tried London ones)
I wore jeans, trainers and a normal top. I blended in perfectly.
