Winter wedding between christmas & new year

Lovely friends of ours are getting married in the week between christmas and new year. First wedding since DD was born so want to look and feel great, but so stuck on what to wear. This time of year, go to is usually a black velvet dress and red lipstick but that feels a bit too vampy for a wedding.

Size 20, 5'8, very apple shaped at the minute.

Trying to avoid black, quite like jewel tones and prefer midi lengths in dresses but im really struggling to find anything i like. Any tips or suggestions?

What colour are the bridesmaids in?

MarmiteCoriander · 16/11/2022 00:30

NO- I wouldn't wear black to a wedding- even in winter! If you prefer velvet- find another colour to wear. M&S have some or this website might be good. A friend uses them all the time and says the quality is good.

How about this from The Reformation?

Or this.

(With decent structuring underneath.)

John Lewis returned 42 results filtering for dress/velvet/size 20

Here are a few, the red one is really nice

I don't think there is anything wrong with "vampy". Lots of lovely dresses on the Bombshell website.

@SleepingStandingUp there are no bridesmaids but the wedding party colours are a cream and pale coffee colour

@MarmiteCoriander yes, this is exactly why i'm trying to avoid black but finding it hard at this time of year. Will check out that website, thanks.

@Aixellency never heard of this website, but some of those dresses are lovely! A little bit out of budget at the minute unfortunately!

@Greengr that dress is a gorgeous colour. Had forgotten about the Studio 8 sub brand. Will take a look at those.

@Defiantlynot41 thank you! I will have a look at John Lewis as well.

@TwigTheWonderKid those dresses are GORGEOUS. Thanks for recommendation.
