Dry scalp

For years I thought I was experiencing dandruff til a hairdresser told me earlier this year that it looks more like dry scalp.

I changed my shampoo straight away and I think it helped a lot.

I don't know if it's because winter is setting in or something else but lately I am experiencing a familiar feeling again.

After I wash my hair, I feel areas like temples and behind the ears and the top of the scalp, tightening. There's a tightening sensation. It doesn't feel nice. When I look in the mirror I see dryness and flakes embedded on my scalp.

This issue is coming back to me again over the past week. If feels awful and looks awful too.

Can anyone recommend a good dry scalp shampoo.

I tend to use Polytar (it stinks though!) or Nizoral.

I get flake ups very infrequently now. I use child's farm baby shampoo and that seems to have resolved the issue for me.

I had the same issue for years . I thought it was dandruff so I kept trying anti-dandruff shampoos but nothing really worked. After reading a lot of reviews I started using Vichy Dercos Anti-Dandruff Shampoo as it was highly recommended .I have used Vichy products previously and I know that they are high quality. From the first use I noticed an improvement.I have been using it exclusively now for a couple of months and I don't have any flakes or tight and itchy scalp. It is more expensive than the average shampoo you get from the supermarket but it is worth every penny for me. You can find it in Boots or the bigger bottle is a bit cheaper from Amazon .
I added a link so you can see what it looks like and you can read the reviews.

Try a low or no sulphate shampoo. SLS can be irritating for some. It makes my scalp itch and I can pull flakes off it.

E45 Dry Scalp Shampoo is very good.
Betnovate Scalp Lotion is prescription only, but it might be worth asking your doctor.
Not for regular use, but if my scalp gets very dry, a couple of applications sorts it out quickly.

You need to find out the cause of your dry scalp - it could be dry skin, dermatitis/eczema, allergy, psoriasis or seborrheic dermatitis. This will help you know how to treat it.

I use Aveeno shampoo, and cold tar shampoo (t gel) once a week. When it flairs I have a prescription for steroid lotion from GP. For years thought it was dandruff, but i have mild psoriasis. Which is why anti dandruff shampoo and Nizoral didn't really help.
