Natural looking mascara?

miffmufferedmoof · 12/11/2022 09:42

Can anyone help me find what I’m looking for?
I don’t really want to look like I’m wearing mascara, but my lashes fade to blonde (invisible) at the tips and I’d like something to darken them. They’re already quite thick and long so only really need a little colour boost.
Any recommendations?

Have you considered dying them? Brown rather than black. You can get DIY kits but you might want go to a professional

Victoria Beckham mascara is very natural and adds colour but little thickening. It’s tubing so can just wipe off with warm water. I think most high street mascaras are going to give you a much more ‘false lash effect’

I think I’d be a bit scared of dying them

Doesn’t seem to be available in brown sadly, otherwise it looks great

Definitely look at dyeing them. Very simple to do at home.

Glossier mascara
chantecaille faux cils mascara - despite the name, it’s very natural-looking (there should be lots of minis on eBay as it’s often in gifts with purchase/advent calendars)
chanel inimitable
Essence maximum definition mascara

look for mascaras that are meant to give definition rather than length or volume, and wipe the mascara brush off on a tissue before applying, especially when the mascara is new.
another trick that works for me is to apply mascara by “blinking into” the brush: hold the brush still near your eyes and blink your lashes into it. I hope that makes sense! It will give your lashes only the slightest coat of mascara.

I prefer a brown mascara (mostly because as I age, I find black looks a bit harsh) and use this one. I think it woukd give a more natural look on pale lashes.

No7 Stay Perfect sounds like exactly what you’re after. It’s smudge proof and it comes off with just water. It’s my ride or die!

LarkRize · 12/11/2022 20:14

This was a game changer for me… The order was not the quickest to arrive but I got several tubes and it’s the most natural looking I have found. SO much better than black, stays put and not clumpy

Benefit tinted lash primer. It comes in a lovely dark brown, and I use it alone most of the time - good colour, but the texture is not stiff or clumpy, and just makes my lashes look natural but more defined, and a little glossy.

Chantecaille faux cils. I wanted to see what the fuss was about and got a sample size from eBay. That was a mistake as I absolutely love it. It’s stupid expensive for a mascara though.

Daisy62 · 12/11/2022 21:59

Dye them, curl them, then use clear mascara. I also have No 7 Stay Perfect mascara for nights out, as recommended upthread, but have to say it does flake on me - slightly better if I use it for top lashes only.

Kaftankween · 12/11/2022 22:19

I agree that Chantecaille faux cils is the best mascara I’ve ever used. It is thickening though and not all that natural (why I love it!)

Clinique lash power (tubing)

WhereAreWeNow · 15/11/2022 06:53

Clinique Naturally Glossy mascara is what you're looking for. It's really light and natural. Your lashes feel soft rather than coated and cake.

I think that's been discontinued, unfortunately Sad

I'm interested in this too (partly because I wear contacts and often touch my eyes), and I've been thinking of getting my lashes dyed and lifted at a brow bar. Interested to hear that people do this and then use clear mascara, sounds perfect!

WhereAreWeNow · 15/11/2022 23:46

Oh no @WrinklesShminkles . That was the best mascara ever 😭

Verite1 · 15/11/2022 23:49

Lancôme hypnose in brown. That’s what I wear for natural day wear. By terry in black is for evening drama!

miffmufferedmoof · 18/11/2022 20:46

Thanks @rosepelargonium , I got the benefit primer and really happy with it

@miffmufferedmoof glad it suits! I love it and have converted my teen dd too

catfunk · 20/11/2022 09:39

Just get them tinted!
