Style this for a 'date'

It's not a date date it lunch with a man that I've known for a year, married for 20 years (past tense) but I'm taking things v slowly obviously 😬

I'm very pale but I feel 'black tights' would kill this look? Model is gorgeous but I'm v v white.

I could wear gold heels or black (LK Bennett)

I feel the sparkles are ok as we live a long way from each other and non date date is 4 December.

Will it look ok?

I'm 5 foot 6 and size 10.

🙏🏼

It's a lovely dress, but wouldn't heels make it look really dressed up for lunch?

Personally, I'd wear with opaques and flat ankle boots (probably Docs) in the daytime.

Wallabyone · 11/11/2022 14:32

Pretty dress but I would also dress it down for a lunch.

I'd wear with 60den tights, suede ankle boots (flat or low heel), with my leather biker and a big scarf.

Hope it goes well!x

Leafblowertime · 11/11/2022 14:36

I’d also dress down , I mean if you front up in a sparkly short dress and gold heels just for a non date for lunch what the heck are you going to do for a date in the evening, a ball gown?

I’d also go black tights and flat boots, biker jacket. Dress it down or you look a bit desperate.

sarahc336 · 11/11/2022 14:38

For lunch I'd dress it down with black tights and black heeled ankle boots, so cute but in a non I'm going on a night out way. Also pair with a black jacket if you have one it'll look lovely op x

pimlicoanna · 11/11/2022 14:48

I think it's way too dressy unless you wear think tights and boots to dress it down. Otherwise it looks a bit try hard

dontgobaconmyheart · 11/11/2022 20:01

Where are you going for the date?

I can't imagine that in the daytime or at anything other that a christmas party (or similar) with heels, which it would be great for. I think tights would make it look like a childrens' party dress sort of vibe and not really work.

It's a tricky one to dress down, I'd probably not pick it for the occasion myself but if I had to I'd put an oversized cropped-ish jumper over the top (or hike one up to the most flattering point on the waist using the belt under your jumper trick), tights and boots and a longer coat.

Silverstreaks · 11/11/2022 20:31

That's a really pretty dress but you're going to scream date if you wear it with gold heels.

More casual footwear and a chunky knit will tone it down.

YoSofi · 11/11/2022 20:58

Agree it’s too much for a lunch date unless you dress it down.

Black tights, flat/chunky ankle boots and a leather jacket would work.

ViktoriaPlzen · 11/11/2022 21:01

That’s a Christmas party dress, not a lunch date dress.

teezletangler · 11/11/2022 23:22

I really don't think that's a lunch dress, even if dressed down. Do you have any other options?

Go for this

Celia24 · 11/11/2022 23:37

Not sure what you could do but wear black tights? Skin colour will make you look more pale and you can't go without, it's too cold.

Would definitely wear black tights and a nice jacket.

offyoufucketyfuck · 11/11/2022 23:43

If you wore something a little less evening, you could then wear heeled boots. Otherwise it would be too much i think. If it's a man that you like, I'd wear a short skirt, tights and heeled knee high boots.

offyoufucketyfuck · 11/11/2022 23:44

If you insist on wearing that dress, do. It wear ankle boots. Wear knee high boots

offyoufucketyfuck · 11/11/2022 23:44

Do not wear ankle boots

Everydaywheniwakeup · 11/11/2022 23:47

Do you have any other clothes at all? I think I'd wear them instead. It's lunch, not a party in 1987.

Amberamethyst · 12/11/2022 01:54

Oh good! Is it that bad?

I’m not quite getting why the sparkles are ok as you live a long way away from each other, I don’t get the correlation to be honest between where he lives and if you should wear a party dress to a casual lunch.

for lunch I’d try to keep it casual , great jeans, high ish suede boots, nice top, hair and makeup done.

the dress tells me you really really like this man, have no desire to take it slow, and the fact you even considered wearing it with gold shoes to lunch is quite telling.

personally I’d maybe try to calm down, take a deep breath, as it’s going to come across in how you interact with him and lots of people get put off if someone is a bit desperate. Try to match him, do you think he is turning up in a suit and tie? If so, go for it, but if you think he will be more casual, you should do the same. It’s better to have a fun relaxed time than sitting there over dressed and looking awkward.

IamTheBridge · 12/11/2022 07:13

I think it is too dressy for a lunch even in December.

Kaftankween · 12/11/2022 07:26

Wow! Some harsh and quite mean responses to a woman who wants to feel confident on a date having not dated in a long time. Any chance of feeling confident gone.
There are no rules about what is suitable for a lunch date. It partly depends on the venue. Wear whatever you like op and whatever makes you feel good.

Amberamethyst · 12/11/2022 01:54

No it’s really not that bad, it’s a lovely dress you just need to style it differently for a lunch date than to say an evening dinner.

I’m sure you’ll look lovely and have a great time whatever you wear!

So rude. Fucking funny though. 😂
OP, as a matter of interest, how far away from each other must you live before it’s acceptable to wear sparkles?

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 12/11/2022 12:25

the dress is a bit party!

this skirt is lovely, I’ve got my eye on it:
