Balayage on thin hair

I don't bother that much with hair and beauty, but as my hair is getting thinner by the day (maybe perimenopause, thyroid, genetics) and am looking for a magic wand to make my hair look thicker. Hairdresser had suggested a balayage which I'm getting done tomorrow, but has anyone had it done on thin hair? All the style photos I've look at show beautiful models with thick hair, and that's not me. Is it going to work?? 😣

Can you let me know how this goes @DanglyThings
I'm debating this as well, but like you say it's almost impossible finding hair models with actual thin hair to get an idea of what styles will look like!

I have dark hair which is thin/fine at the front.
Balayage helps my hair look a bit thicker imo as I think lighter coloured hair is more forgiving (scalp doesn't show up as much) and it damages my hair a little which seems to give it body.
Hope it works well for you.

I think it went pretty well! I've been so busy though, I haven't had time to have a good look at the colour in proper light, so will get back to you in the morning 😊

Yes I have had balayage in the past and now have highlights . It works in two ways , the colour makes the hair strands swell and also the colour gives the illusion of depth and thickness . I had it initially to blend in grey . . My hair is so fine but it’s the longest I have ever had it !

ooh I’m interested in this as well - fine dark hair but also a lot of grey. Can it help me?!

MusselMam · 12/11/2022 11:26

Me too. Going grey. Could anyone send pics?

DanglyThings · 12/11/2022 14:27

I wish I'd taken a photo in the salon yesterday! Having now slept on it and spent the day hoovering and cleaning, it's not very photogenic now 😫 But it does actually feel better, and my greys (whites!) are well covered. I didn't know much about the process beforehand, but she did the blond bits with foils, backcombing the roots so that she could cover them with my natural brown colour after. I was expecting to look really light, but it's actually quite dark as the brown is all over my head, with the blond pieces poking through at the ends. I'll try and get a good photo tomorrow! Over all though, seems like a good idea so far 👌

It's really hard to tell, but there are some lighter bits in there!

Looks lovely!

DanglyThings · 13/11/2022 15:23

@Findmeintheshed it would have worked better with a before and after, lol! But thank you ☺️

It does look lovely, and not as thin as my hair!

kerstina · 13/11/2022 21:51

My hair is messy I know but I get away with foil highlights twice a year as when the highlights grow out a bit it looks like balayage which is quite popular at the moment . My natural hair is brown with some grey .
