Blusher that won't make me look embalmed?

Suboptimalsitch · 08/11/2022 20:17

I don't want anything with any sparkle in but don't want to look embalmed either and am struggling to find something. I'm in my 60s and Nars, Charlotte Tilbury too sparkly/to dead looking. I have very combination skin - dry cheeks and very greasy t zone . Any ideas? Also could do with foundation recommendation. BB cream too greasy, foundation too thick or turns into an oil slick. I used to love Lili Lolo mineral foundation but since menopause altered my skin type that doesn't seem to work either. I'm truly stuck. I'm fair skinned with I think cool undertones. TIA

Blusher I really like benefit tints - several different shades.

Estee lauder double wear do different consistencies and coverage, my skin has changed quite a bit and I still find one that suits. They have loads of shades and I have a neutral / cool tone.

crochetmeahat · 08/11/2022 20:40

I would say that this is one occasion to visit a good old beauty counter. They are v good at assessing your skin in it's current state not what you think you've got/used to have.

Jones Road miracle balm. Adds warmth and moisture. If you can get to Liberty they sell it.

PrincessIce · 08/11/2022 20:48

Bobbi brown rouge pots - absolute game changer for me. They look really natural but they give me a bit of colour (I'm pale). The cream texture is fantastic and I just apply with my fingers and blend a bit and hey presto! I also use the peach one on my eyelids as well when I'm going natural - that's not what it's designed for but works for me.

Suboptimalsitch · 08/11/2022 20:59

Sadly a 3 hour train ride distance from Liberty . I will ask to try the Bobbi Brown rouge pots and the Benefit when I go into town . I used to use doublewear light for years then it was just wrong on me when my skin did an about turn. I'll see what they can recommend though and remember they were good at giving out samples so hopefully that's still the case. For so long I had products that looked good. For the last 2 years it's been a struggle and a lot of trial with mostly error

Glossier Cloud Paints

JoanDarc · 08/11/2022 22:45

I really rate beauty pies cream blush pots, very buildable and a nice flush of colour to make you look fresh (and alive!). For foundation I would recommend no.7 hydraluminous, best foundation I’ve used, would normally spend more and wouldn’t normally buy from no.7 but I’m really impressed. I’ve got a similar skin type and cool toned too and use the shade cool vanilla.

Suboptimalsitch · 09/11/2022 07:02

I will definitely visit the No.7 counter too and will check out Glossier and Beauty Pie if anywhere stocks them round here. The No.7 foundation sounds promising and a ‘nice flush of colour ‘ is exactly what I’m after from a blusher. Thanks everyone,

Beauty Pie is online only right? Like Beauty Bay, Look Fantastic etc?

I have a cream pot from Elf which I picked up on a whim from Superdrug. It's a lovely pinkish-coral and gives a really healthy glow, v easy to apply and build, and not greasy/shiny. Definitely no sparkle.
Worth a try for the price.

JustCheckingItsMine · 09/11/2022 07:08

Sorry but your thread title gave me a real chuckle this morning so thank you!

illamasqua do some lovely soft cream products that would be much better than a powder, and I also really recommend their contour stick for just under the cheekbone. As a other poster said, a counter trip would help, I often find we get a bit stuck in the same products and techniques

heidbuttsupper · 09/11/2022 07:12

I love L'Oréal Le Blush

Sparkletastic · 09/11/2022 07:14

You have to pay membership for Beauty Pie and having recently left I'd say don't bother joining but maybe try a free trial then leave after ordering. No to Jones Road Miracle Balm - it remains tacky and is a disaster on oily skin and in terms of longevity. You can still get good blushers from Mac and Bobbi Brown. Dior and Hourglass blushes are fabulous if you can throw some money at the problem.

acornsarenottheonlyfruit · 09/11/2022 07:17

I use the Loreal serum foundation with the dropper in the small bottle, I am very pale and use the second to lightest colour. My skin sounds similar to yours and it is one of the best products I have used. Laura mercier do a tinted moisturiser that gives good coverage, would be best to get colour matched though.

I use a rimmel blusher/bronzer that has no sparkle and is actually meant to to used all over but I just use on cheeks. Its called radiance powder and is a square compact with different coloured squares of powder.

Mumteedum · 09/11/2022 07:18

I recently tried a stick blusher from clarins online but suspect you can similar products for less. It looks shockingly bright when you put it on but blends beautifully. I often don't bother with foundation and just put this on over beauty flash balm. (I'm nearly 50... In midst of Meno/peri )

Squirrelsnut · 09/11/2022 07:25

Glossier Cloud Paints are delightful.

KILM · 09/11/2022 07:28

Fair skinned with cool undertones - go for a pink blush. Like a proper pale pink.
Glossier Cloud Paint in Puff is great, i had never used a liquid blush but its so easy once you get the hang of it and you need the tiniest amount so it lasts forever. Might need to order online though.
MAC do a million blush finishes that you can swatch in store to check sparkle levels etc.
However sounds like you need to figure out if your new makeup routine for your changing skin needs to lean more liquid, cream or powder based first so you might need some further experimenting.

OldTinHat · 09/11/2022 07:29

The No. 7 blushers are good as is Dandelion from Benefit.

Quitelikeacatslife · 09/11/2022 07:31

I like benefit hoola, it's classed as a bronzer but works for me . I also have a pinkier Mac blusher if need a bit extra .
Depends on your skin type but by far the best foundation for me is estee lauder futurist hydra rescue I absolutely love it

Martinisarebetterdirty · 09/11/2022 08:26

Hourglass vanish blush stick is fabulous, no sparkle and takes off that washed out look, buildable colour too.

Suboptimalsitch · 09/11/2022 10:51

Thanks so much everyone. I will devote a day to haunting beauty counters roadtesting some of these recommendations. Might have to involve a few days as my face will be so flushed from the removal and application of multiple products it might be impossible to get an accurate idea of shades after a few rounds. I really appreciate all the suggestions.

Mardyface · 09/11/2022 13:25

Just to say your thread title made me laugh too. Good hunting!

Arrivederla · 09/11/2022 19:02

Everyone seems to rave about no 7 Hydraluminous but it's a disaster on me; I'm 60 and it just sits in my fine lines. Almost unusable. 🙁

Lotsofthings · 09/11/2022 19:06

Trinny London Wiggs is a natural flushed pink cream blusher.
