Blusher that won't make me look embalmed?

Suboptimalsitch · 08/11/2022 20:17

I don't want anything with any sparkle in but don't want to look embalmed either and am struggling to find something. I'm in my 60s and Nars, Charlotte Tilbury too sparkly/to dead looking. I have very combination skin - dry cheeks and very greasy t zone . Any ideas? Also could do with foundation recommendation. BB cream too greasy, foundation too thick or turns into an oil slick. I used to love Lili Lolo mineral foundation but since menopause altered my skin type that doesn't seem to work either. I'm truly stuck. I'm fair skinned with I think cool undertones. TIA

I’m 48 and started using Glossier Cloud paint was couple of years ago. Use sparingly! My colour is Storm and it’s fairly deep though I am pale skinned.

Suboptimalsitch · 09/11/2022 20:28

Everyone seems to rave about no 7 Hydraluminous but it's a disaster on me; I'm 60 and it just sits in my fine lines. Almost unusable. 🙁

That's the thing isn't it. That what's great for one is a nightmare on another. I'm not investing in foundation unless I can get samples . I tried some Clarins moisturizer samples and they were all terrible for my t zone so I'm so glad I didnt waste Megabucks. I think the glossier paint might have to be online punt as I don't remember seeing it in any stores here.

Glossier Cloud Paints

Agree. Not cheap but only use a little so tube lasts for ages, just be careful not to squeeze too much. In fact just rub finger on excess on tube.

I think powder is harsher on older skin , cream like this is gentler and you can build up. No sparkle but not flat.

Whatsleftnow · 09/11/2022 22:38

Chuckling at your title (and wondering if the local undertaker might be able to give me some pointers)

Suboptimalsitch · 09/11/2022 22:50

I'm really wanting to try the Glossier paint now. Have watched a few reviews on YouTube and it looks lovely. Just need to see if I can find one with an older person with as near a skin tone to mine as possible. I think definitely powder is the cause of the embalmed appearance. Foundation that looked fresh and light a few years ago now looks too heavy and highlights my pores and blusher that gave me a healthy flush now makes me look more ready for a final viewing than a day out.

Another one who laughed at the thread title!

I love the rare beauty blushers, www.spacenk.com/uk/makeup/cheeks/blusher/soft-pinch-liquid-blush-UK200032783.html?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIy9mRlJii-wIVw-vtCh0h-gHHEAQYAiABEgLCO_D_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds not many in stock online though. A little really goes along way with this, very pigmented but blends out beautifully. They also do a blusher in a compact which is lovely as well.

glossier cloud paints are great too, they last forever though, whilst cost effective I do sometimes wish it would run out so I can justify buying another in a different colour!

Sorry I missed the foundation recommendation, if you have a Clinique counter near you worth checking out the Even better foundation. www.lookfantastic.com/clinique-even-better-makeup-spf15-30ml-various-shades/11144102.html?affil=thggpsad&switchcurrency=GBP&shippingcountry=GB&variation=11144106&shoppingpid=lf_clinique_041017&thg_ppc_campaign=71700000088329921&adtype=&product_id=11144106&gbraid=0AAAAAD-fXiraBi8FPgafQO0_n5yMcIuVN&gbraid=0AAAAAD-fXiraBi8FPgafQO0_n5yMcIuVN&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIsoqyu5mi-wIVCLbtCh01qQr-EAQYAiABEgLIevD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds I’m greasy and dry at the same time annoyingly, found this lasted well and had a nice finish. This does slightly oxidise on me though, so worth getting a tester if you can. (Btw the Eborian cc cream mentioned above is lovely but that really oxidised on me, by the end of the day it had got so dark on me that I had to check the packaging to make sure I hadn’t accidentally fake tanned!)

justasking111 · 09/11/2022 23:07

I use Nars liquid, powder blusher is not my friend these days. The cloud one sounds lovely too. L'Oréal foundation, L'Oréal rosy Glow moisturizer. The only powder that I use is a bronzer.

Isitreally89 · 10/11/2022 04:26

Clinique Chubby Stick Cheek Colour Balm !

BritInAus · 10/11/2022 05:00

I have the same skin type as you OP. I love MAC Mineralize blushes.

Jones Road miracle balm. Adds warmth and moisture. If you can get to Liberty they sell it.

I second this. It's fantastic. I have it in three colours and wear it everyday.

Ladyofthelake53 · 11/11/2022 05:01

Hydraluminous user here too it's great, colour match is brilliant im Cool Vanilla.

Suboptimalsitch · 11/11/2022 07:55

I really like the Clinique products I’ve tried but I’ve been allergic to all of them which is strange as they’re supposed to particularly suit sensitive skin. I’m looking forward to a few days haunting MAC , NARS and Space NK as well as some of the others that have been recommended. Hoping to soon look more alive.

I've recently bought this one from Stila. It's not at all shimmery and just gives a touch of blendable colour to my cheeks. Can also be used on lips as well.

I honestly think the key is getting the colour right. You need completely different shades depending on whether you have cool or warm toned skin. Mac are good for telling you which you are if you can get to a counter.

Suboptimalsitch · 11/11/2022 16:35

There’s definitely no problem getting to Stila or MAC counters. I can’t wait to go into town next week and start on a foundation and blusher testing mission now.

I found glossier cloud paints a little too pigmented.
mac glow play blush is fantastic, it’s a weird texture but it looks so natural when applied. I don’t like mac cream blushes but these are completely different.

Follow ‘hot and flashy’ on YouTube for loads of ideas for over 50s. She’s never sent me wrong! Always gives cheaper alternatives and currently recommending the L’Oréal serum foundation mentioned above to replace her (and mine!) fav Chanel foundation.

Properjob · 14/11/2022 17:41

I have all the same skin issues as you OP including reaction to Clinique...
and the only 'foundation' I use now is No. 7 Hydra Luminous tinted moisturiser (its not a foundation, but has enough coverage imho). Its really comfortable to wear and is by far the least greasy. Its not expensive either so no tester required!

nopuppiesallowed · 14/11/2022 18:39

Another one allergic to Clinique...

Fayelina · 14/11/2022 21:27

I’m fair skinned, cool, love Benefit Dandelion, it’s the best pale but healthy blusher I’ve found. Easy to use and just gives the best healthy flush.
Also love the Daniel Sandler Watercolour blush, it’s liquid so I feel I need more time to use it but fab finish.

OhPeggySue · 14/11/2022 21:40

I'm a fan of hydraluminous too.
Just bought an aldi one (armani dupe) and its brilliant. One of the best I've ever tried.

No 7 busher in a mini squeezy tube is lovely, as is Benefit pinky tint.

I came here to recommend the GOSH Copenhagen dupe for the Daniel Sandler Watercolour blush - it's nicely pigmented with a lovely melty, sheer texture. I've only ever seen in in person at Superdrug but you can probably get it online somewhere.

I also rate Benetint - the original pinky red one - which is very natural but takes a bit of practice to apply.

Fayelina · 14/11/2022 22:15

Thank you, I’ll look out for that one, though I feel the Daniel Sandler will last me ages as you only need a little bit.

TheMildManneredMilitant · 14/11/2022 22:19

Lol at thread title.

Another vote for Glossier cloud paint. I'm quite pale with cool/neutral undertones and Beam works really well. I never touch powdered products these days.
