Good knitwear

I'm looking for good basic knitwear preferably in merino wool. I'm sure there must be a company somewhere which makes plain jumpers, cardigans in loads of shapes, styles and sizes in a number of colours but can't find any.

Can anyone help?

Uniqlo if you are on a budget. My ten year old Uniqlo merino cardigan still looks new. Otherwise John Smedley, ££ and less colour choice but gorgeous.
