What kind of hat to wear with this vintage coat?

It's not a great picture, sorry. It's a vintage English Lady chocolate brown faux fur coat that comes down to mid calf. It has a big hood. It's in need of a new lining to spruce it up but I love hats and want a hat to wear with it. Any suggestions?

A neat beret ? It's quite a large statement coat so I think something simple like a beret.

Think we need to see the collar and sleeves before suggesting a hat shape.

AlternativelyWired · 06/11/2022 22:37

Yes it certainly will make a statement on the school run I suppose! I'm thinking of having it lined in a bronze colour.

It's a nice coat x

How do you normally wear your hair?

The style looks quite 20s so a cloche hat would suit.

AlternativelyWired · 06/11/2022 23:15

My hair is usually down. It's very long and slightly wavy.

Depends on the rest of your outfit. If it's casual I might go for a soft cashmere beanie in the same colour as the lining. Or as PP have said a beret for a smarter look.

AlternativelyWired · 07/11/2022 07:41

The photo has changed the lining to orange but it's not.

How about a faux fur or velvet hat, something a little floppy?

CanYouFeelMyHeart · 07/11/2022 07:48

Yes, cloche.

hoorayandupsherises · 07/11/2022 10:02

I'd wear a cashmere bandeau or cloche. Also, as a PP said, a cashmere beanie in the lining would look nice if you were wearing, for example, jean and trainers under it.

AlternativelyWired · 07/11/2022 10:34

I'd probably wear jeans and boots. I've seen some hats on vinted that might look good with it.

I'd take inspiration from the frogging on the coat and wear a Cossack style hat in velvet or felt, it's shape like a deep pillbox so would work with your long hair.
Either match the colour of the coat lining or pick something to contrast with the coat, perhaps a peacock blue.

AlternativelyWired · 07/11/2022 11:36

I wonder if the lady I'm getting to do my coat lining would re-line the hat too? I'm a very matchy matchy person.

Stunning coat! Definitely a cloche - there’s lots on Etsy if you search velvet cloche
