Where did you shop...but don't now?

Could be due to rising prices or crap choices these days. I'll go first -

Boden (increased price)
Baukjen increased prices)
H&M (too fast fashion)

OP posts:
GallopingGreen · 05/11/2022 14:52

Boden- same as pp, too expensive while lower quality.
Oasis- used to love it back in the day, affordable but felt like a treat.
Monsoon- I got so many great tops there about 5-10 years ago, and their jeans were great on me. I get a weird vibe when I go in there now and see nothing I like.

BuryingAcorns · 05/11/2022 14:55

Unlikely but BHS. I got a party dress there for £40 which was identical to one in another shop for £400. Had lots of people admire it as the more expensive version. And beautiful long linen skirts for £12 in the sales. The nearest equivalent I could find were £100.

BreakfastOfWaffles · 05/11/2022 14:56

I used to love Kookaii when I was younger and trendier. I don't think it is exists any more though. I had a long break from M&S during their wilderness years but have gone back over the past couple of years.

AceofPentacles · 05/11/2022 14:57

Whistles and jigsaw got way too unfashionable I shop at Cos and Arket instead

warofthemonstertrucks · 05/11/2022 14:59

Zara. Can't be bothered to guess which size I will be as it could be practically any in there so random is the sizing. And online is ridiculous-the website is famously ludicrous and the returns are impossible.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 05/11/2022 15:00

Warehouse, it's all online and dreadful quality.

Massimo Duti, I just don't like it anymore

ImPickleRickSpartacus · 05/11/2022 15:00

-Dolls kill. They already charged for shipping and then you'd also get hit with a fed ex bill later on. Greedy fuckers.
-Topshop.

I mostly shop in charity shops now. It's a mission to find good quality stuff though.

declutteringmymind · 05/11/2022 15:04

Karen Millen - it's shit now
Ted Baker
Warehouse
Coast
Monsoon
Mint velvet
Jaeger
Jigsaw

I still shop at Zara

Now shop at:

Maje
Zadig
Rag and bone
Anthropologie
Kin by JL
JL own brand
M&S
Primark
All saints

shiningstar2 · 05/11/2022 15:05

East ...used to be sold in my local John Lewis but they stopped selling in the shop and I like to see before I buy. Can't be bothered to go online and have the trouble if parcelling up and sending back if I don't like the fabric or the fit isn't right
Monsoon ...same reason as above. They closed two ships near me and I really do like to see try on then buy
Marks and Spencer . apart from jeans leggings, knickers and tights. Can never find anything else I really like in there and years ago I used to buy loads in there
New favourite. Fatface.

shiningstar2 · 05/11/2022 15:05

Shops not ships 😁

impressivelycunty · 05/11/2022 15:09

Hobbs (dreary)
Zara (terrible sizing and mainly tat)
Boden (expensive and hideous designs/fabric)
Jigsaw (very meh and expensive)
Wyse (expensive and I really didlike their Instagram)
Me And Em (so expensive now)

Floisme · 05/11/2022 15:11

TK Maxx - turned to shit.
Whistles - turned to shit.
Boden - turned to shit.
Zara - I still look occasionally but mostly turned to shit.
H&M - see above.

Cos and Toast are probably next - I don't shop at either often enough to have spotted a decline yet but it's probably just a matter of time.

Marks and Spencer and Uniqlo are just about hanging on but I'm not a huge fan of either.

The only places where I shop regularly now are a local dress agency and second hand market stall and, when they retire, I don't know what I'll do. I'm trying to get into making my own but it's very slow.

barbrahunter · 05/11/2022 15:11

Most of mine have already been mentioned.

Next used to be good quality clothing, properly lined. They got worse and worse quality and I presume they thought nobody would notice.
Jigsaw, a bit dearer but again, they used to be good quality good fabric and lined. Not now, cheap polyester for over 100 quid no thanks.
I am hanging onto M&S although there has been some decline in the quality of fabrics.
I too am old enough to remember Chelsea girl - the only shop on the high street when I was a teenager that had cool clothes.

BarmyArmy22 · 05/11/2022 15:17

Oasis & Warehouse after they got taken over/online used to get a lot from the shops.
NEXT Boden & Monsoon- now have tweens /teens but used regularly for younger kids clothes.
Debenhams - liked their kids clothes and the womens outlets in there. Shame it closed.
Laura Ashley used to have some nice staple pieces.

Blasts from the past - C&A, Etam, Tammy Girl (loved) & Chelsea Girl

BarmyArmy22 · 05/11/2022 15:19

River Island haven't shopped at for years as clothes always look tacky to me & never liked the idea of the kids range

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 05/11/2022 15:43

Boden, Jigsaw, White Stuff, Fatface etc for all the cost/quality reasons above

Gap - because they massively reduced their Tall range

John Lewis - because they closed my nearest branch, which was still a bit of a hike away, but worth it, with other jobs to do in Sheffield.

Warehouse - lost their edge

Racing Green (showing my age here), Kew (budget spin off of Jigsaw) - closed

H&M - the dc too big for their kids/youth ranges, I don't trust/understand their adult sizing

Zara - in fact never did buy anything from them, before a member of floor staff was so rude to me, I left and never stepped foot in again.

Everywhere that sells flipping flouncy tiered dresses - I'm not a flaming milkmaid.

Skinny jeans/trousers of any sort - I have very big calf muscles, partly genes, partly a youth of swimming and cycling
, and have never been able to get skinny trews to fit.

I'm actually having a lot of trouble buying new clothes at the moment.

LearnerCook · 05/11/2022 15:45

Boden. It's got so expensive. I still browse and covet some pieces but just can't afford them.
Next. I dint know what the heck happened, maybe my style changed, but there was just nothing for me any more.
Back in the day, BHS & Littlewoods were good for work basics.
Joules. Too many animal patterns.

I'm really enjoying wearing Scandinavian brands just now, like Part Two and Modström. You can get them from Zalando online.

Fieldfly · 05/11/2022 15:51

Next - like a market stall

boden - still use occasionally (only when on sale though) but they have fewer good plain basics, it’s all frills and shit now. Apparently it’s v popular n the US so not sure I am their target anymore.

whitestuff - realised I don’t want to look like a primary school teacher + overpriced and limp, thin fabrics

jigsaw - still wear some 20+ year old silk and well made cotton things from there but now it is all viscose at silk prices.

fatface - it’s just all so drab

i just want natural fibres - and I don’t include viscose in that.

Now I buy work stuff from Hobbs or JL own brand and continue to wear well made stuff from ages ago.

devilinareddress · 05/11/2022 15:54

Whistles, it used to be good, but rarely find anything now
Zara, just not the same anymore
Oasis, many years ago, just again not as good
Jigsaw, used to be good for some things, then went through a dodgy period
I like Cos and Arket these days, Levi's, and Sweaty Betty, and putdoors type of shops

devilinareddress · 05/11/2022 15:55

Outdoors types of shops

devilinareddress · 05/11/2022 15:56

Also still like a lot of AllSaints

jay55 · 05/11/2022 15:59

Monsoon unless a great deal in the sale.
Next I stopped a decade ago when the zips got too short to get their trousers over my hips.
Gap I used to live in their black trousers for work but the range changed and I got old.

RiftGibbon · 05/11/2022 16:00

BHS for lighting, bedding and footwear.
Woolworths for homewares, small DIY items and stationery.
Our Price for vinyl on import.
Debenhams for occasion wear.
The Pier for unusual bowls, picture frames, gifts.
All gone.

Oasis for workwear. It got rubbish.
River Island for everyday clothing . Got too expensive.

Scrambledeggsontoasted · 05/11/2022 16:05

BarmyArmy22 · 05/11/2022 15:19

River Island haven't shopped at for years as clothes always look tacky to me & never liked the idea of the kids range

I went into River Island the other day for the first time in about 5 years. It all looked like the costumes for 'House of Gucci'. Garish 90s knock off designer clothes.

Most places I used to shop have gone out of business.

I used to like Next. Mainly for smart work stuff when I went into the office. But now its all just so hideous. Its nowhere near 'trendy' or 'fashionable'. But is also lacks the timeless staples that other places like White Stuff, Seasalt and such favour.

I've started shopping in new look again recently. It's like I'm 17 all over again.

donttalkaboutbookclub · 05/11/2022 16:39

I used to be a devoted Boden fan, but they seem over priced now unless you shop in their sales which are honestly so complicated sometimes - 50% off one day, then 25%, or free returns and free postage sometimes but not always, then they send me a £10 off voucher that ends just before the sale starts...just do fair pricing ffs!
