Too soon for fair isle?

It doesn’t matter as I’m wearing it to work today anyway and I loves it (it’s on the bright side).
Just wondering if I’m making a huge fashion blunder 😁

Never too soon. It’s really got cold the last few days, winter is here.

Riverlee · 04/11/2022 07:38

Love my fair isle jumper. However, as it’s wool based, not been cold enough to wear it yet.

GerundTheBehemoth · 04/11/2022 07:40

Not too soon if it's cold enough where you are!

(but I thought this would be about visiting Fair Isle itself, and was going to advise waiting until they have finished rebuilding the bird observatory!)

Gruelle · 04/11/2022 07:47

Show! Show! Show!

Love a bright fair isle sweater. And I have my eye on a scrumptiously dark one primarily for wearing at home, in place of a hoodie.

These are two of the brightest I’ve seen recently:

(But where I am it’s probably still a bit too warm to wear one inside.)

Well very outing…but here it is….is this just screaming Christmas?
i feel like the yoke fair isles require a bit of snow on the ground to justify.

It’s very nice. And not Christmassy at all really.

chalkyc2 · 04/11/2022 08:26

I want a Celtic & co one. Are they worth the £££?! @Gruelle where is the yellow one from?!

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 04/11/2022 08:50

That's lovely, but won't you boil? I know it has dropped cold but we haven't even had a hard frost!

Obviously if you are in the Highlands or something crack on!!!

Gruelle · 04/11/2022 08:51

@chalkyc2 - the plain one? Here.

I saw the other on Plümo a while ago but not sure it’s still in stock. Chased it up but really, I already have enough knitwear.

chalkyc2 · 04/11/2022 08:52

Oh it's really lovely in the turquoise!

Maybe a bit beyond my usual budget 🙂

chalkyc2 · 04/11/2022 08:57

There's a fair isle vest in sea salt I like ..... more inter season?!?

Cloudwire · 04/11/2022 09:42

What a beautiful jumper! Definitively not too soon. The colours aren't particularly festive so I would think you can wear it up until spring too.

EastFortySixth · 04/11/2022 09:42

It is cold where I am today…plus I’m always cold anyway even in the middle of summer I’ll have a cardy at the ready!

Ok feeling a bit better about jumper selection this morning! It’s so cosy…I’d wear it all winter if I could.

My mum used to knit fair isle jumpers when I was little…she used to get £5 or something per jumper and then it would be sold by one of the specialist shops (like Edinburgh Woollen Mill) for x20 that! Im sure she could produce one every couple of days. I find the whirrr of the knitting machine one of those soothing sounds from childhood.

Thank you for this thread, it's reminded me I want one for Christmas.
Usually I think of a gift from DH earlier in the year but forget so DH takes it upon himself (every year) to buy me perfume. While it's very appreciated it's become rather predictable, last year he bought me the same perfume I used when we first met 30 years ago! There was a reason I stopped wearing it about 25 years ago because I grew to hate it. His reasoning was because HE likes it!!
So back to this thread, any recommendations for Fair Isle jumpers, preferably under £100

Gruelle · 04/11/2022 10:38

Isn’t the Seasalt a bit … dull, @chalkyc2?

(Sure there’s a middle ground!)

Yarrawonga · 04/11/2022 10:45

I’m wearing a Fair Isle jumper today. Superdry.

chalkyc2 · 04/11/2022 10:45

Subtle maybe?!?

But yeah - I'm not so fussed on blanket fairisle or I will look like a substantial Christmas tree on parade - def more like the ones that have patterns around the neck and cuffs

SirChenjins · 04/11/2022 10:46

I’ve been wearing my Fair Isles for weeks now - it’s cold here, why not? Love a fair isle - there’s something very wholesome and comforting about them.

ShaunaTheSheep · 04/11/2022 10:50

I picked this up in M&S:https://www.marksandspencer.com/fair-isle-v-neck-sleeveless-knitted-vest/p/clp60562577?intid=mobileappppdpshare

Easier to wear than a jumper IMO.

Yarrawonga · 04/11/2022 10:56

Easier to wear than a jumper IMO.

Only if you haven’t recently watched a rerun of Open All Hours.

I'm sure half of mumsnet seem to shop at Boden and plenty own the same jumper OP, I can't see how it could really be outing.

I don't think that colourway or design is festive or even wintery at all so I'd not worry - as long as it's weather appropriate i'd crack on and enjoy, it's a very cheerful knit and doesn't look particularly thick or bulky which fair isle knits usually go in for and I think therefore give that deep winter vibe.

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 04/11/2022 11:09

Is the wool itchy? I like the look of them but they look itchy.

Gruelle · 04/11/2022 11:18

Three off the cuff suggestions - Zara (cheap, not all wool), Plumo, Harley (can’t find where to actually buy the last one).

Never mind, I've just ordered the sleeveless one from M&S on the basis that if it's over a shirt it doesn't matter if it's itchy!
