Apologies if this has already been done but as per the title I just want a waterproof coat (that's available this year!) that really IS waterproof!! And covers my arse. I'm an apple shape. Recommendations please!! 😃 any budget!

Love a didriksons have 2! Never spent more than £120 on longer line arse covering waterproof one.

I got this from M&S for walking the dog. Wore it yesterday in torrential rain and the water just ran off it, I’m really impressed!

I have the North Face Arctic Parka 2. I bought it because I get cold easily and when it's cold, windy and raining it's like being wrapped in a duvet. Been out in torrential rain and I've stayed absolutely bone dry.

Protected Species coats are great.

Rubbishname101 · 03/11/2022 09:32

I think a lot of the high street brands do really good waterproof coats now. I bought a coat from Uniqlo last year and the water just runs off.

Fleur405 · 03/11/2022 09:32

I walked past new look one day when it was raining and bought a raincoat for £25. It’s 100% waterproof and I actually think it doesn’t look too bad!!

wetotter · 03/11/2022 09:35

LandsEnd are usually very good.

I have a Driza-bone, but it's not particularly warn, so need layers underneath (no hood either, but I prefer a hat with a brim to a hood)

Badger1970 · 03/11/2022 09:36

I've got a really long Seasalt one (think it's a Plant Hunter) that is completely waterproof and comes down to my knees. It was worth every penny.

Also Didriksons are good - I've got a waterproof that I wear with a fleece underneath and it's again completely waterproof. And Barbour waxed jackets, but they're short in the arms so I had to go up 2 sizes. It's perfect again with a fleece under, I had mine on this morning and was dry as a bone in spite of a complete downpour Hmm

The trick is keeping them waterproof so use something like Tech-Wash every so often. www.nikwax.com/en-gb/products/Cleaning/tech-wash/

I'm a definite apple shape & i love the Protected Species Tour. I have it by it in Khaki & it's totally waterproof & looks really good.

Unseelie · 03/11/2022 10:03

My lovely Lands End and North Face coats have stopped being waterproof because I washed then 🤦‍♀️ Apparently you have to re waterproof then regularly.

ItsRainingTacos79 · 03/11/2022 10:08

I am loving my Holzweiler Solidarity Poncho. I can wear thick jumpers under without feeling restricted. It goes past my knees. Nice, deep hood. And it keeps me completely dry.

ItsRainingTacos79 · 03/11/2022 10:10

Also noticed sweaty Betty has the Excursion raincoat on offer at the moment!

ZittiEBuoni · 03/11/2022 10:10

I've had Boden and Joules long waterproof coats that were really good and very warm too. About to chuck one on right now in fact. They last for yearrrs too, so good vfm. I had the Boden one for 10 years, the Joules is coming up for 6 and good as new.

SalviaOfficinalis · 03/11/2022 10:12

Agree sea salt are very waterproof and the hood is actually big enough to stop your face getting wet.

Ragruggers · 03/11/2022 10:15

Seasalt perfect.Jonelleis also super warm.

Another vote for www.protected-species.com

I have the city walker jacket in Khaki which I love so much I am happy when it rains and I get to wear it.

Lovely fabric and genuinely waterproof. Brilliant

ShatParp · 03/11/2022 10:26

Wow loads to look at, thanks everyone!!! 😊
I have the tech wash and a treatment but on my last 2 waterproof coats it still didn't keep them waterproof, I must be doing something wrong! 😁

Joules loxley is longline and very waterproof. Torrential rain yesterday on the school run and the rain just ran off. There are different ones, but the one I have is lined with fur on the hood and upper body so it is warm too. I choose it as the waist can be pulled in with drawstrings inside which may suit an apple shape?

afrikat · 03/11/2022 10:34

I have a Protected Species one and it's fab

canyouextrapol · 03/11/2022 10:37

I always get craghoppers ones now :)

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 03/11/2022 11:22

I've got a regatta one that's waterproof but it only goes halfway over my arse.

Softpebbles · 03/11/2022 17:37

I’ve just ordered the sweaty Betty one as I wanted one smarter than my rab one!

GettingStuffed · 03/11/2022 17:46

I own this www.weirdfish.co.uk/p/women/coats-jackets/i/sanne-recycled-organic-waterproof-longline-jacket-boysenberry-19156

It's their summer one and is totally waterproof. They do have a couple of winter ones too. Just read the reviews as sizing is a bit haphazard.

Mine is a 16, the lower end of my size range nd it's big enough to wear a thick jumper underneath

covetingthepreciousthings · 03/11/2022 17:56

Another vote for Didriksons, best coat I've ever owned!

SkankingWombat · 03/11/2022 18:27

I have a Rooster Pro Aquafleece rigging coat after seeing it recommended on a thread of fed-up soaked-through fellow school-runners. It is great! Long length, roomy so can fit plenty of layers under it (size down because it is designed to go over a buoyancy vest - learnt that the hard way! The smaller size is still roomy), wind proof, not sweaty, and deep pockets. My only complaint is that it is so waterproof, the rain runs straight off it and on very rainy days I get home soaked from the knees down.
