Wedding reception (ours)

We just got married in an intimate ceremony in a different part of the country. Very small just family. We loved it. We are back home now and having a big evening reception in our home town. I'd love to wear my wedding dress for this but its so tight. I was thinner when I had it (probably too slim) . Lower end on bmi scale. I didn't live with my partner then and used to have kiddies size portions or finish the kids left overs. No reason why I just did. And that's when I bought my dress. Moved in with him. Eating more normal sized portions and put little bit of weight on. Went for dress fitting and they ended up having to let it out!!! It's fitted but very tight!!
I'm wondering what shapewear would be best to hide back fat. It's a strapless mermaid dress.

My neighbour is going to make the hook and eye clip a bit sturdier which should help.

Is spanx any good and does anything actually work or is it just a con???

Any advice would be greatly received.

Ask to get this moved to Style and Beauty, everyone is really helpful.

I just asked the Mumsnet team
for them to move it for you.

Report your post OP and ask that way. The team will move it I’m sure.

I always find that shapewear just pushes the fat up, so I'm not sure it would work in this scenario. Are you wanting to wear the original dress again? It wasn't 100% clear. I don't know what size and shape you are but would converting it to a corset-back be more flattering? For the cost of that I might be considering buying another dress. Not necessarily a wedding dress, maybe something like Ghost/Monsoon/Whistles.

Can we see a photo of you in the dress? Might be easier to advise then on what might help in terms of shapewear options.

You look lovely!
Could you wear it for a photo session, then change into a 'going away outfit'.

Thank you. My mum has suggested wear it for a bit and if gets uncomfortable swap to a more comfy dress. That way most people will see my wedding dress but I'm still going to be comfy. My neighbour is going to make the hook and eye clip bit more sturdier so shouldn't pop open 😬🤣

Gorgeous dress! I would make an entrance in it, take photos and then change. You’ll have more fun if you can breathe properly.
