Separated but really want a beautiful ring

I hope this doesn’t sound shallow!

I was married for 20 years and am now separated for over a year, it’s going ok and the kids are happy. We work well as Co parents.

I really miss wearing a beautiful ring as it was the only piece of expensive jewellery I owned.

im not sure how to explain what I want but often see them on website that redesign older rings into something more modern. I couldn’t have my rings redesigned, just because I don’t want to!

I think what I want is called a ‘scatter ring’ and does anyone know where I could get something similar. Ideally Diamond and tanzanite, don’t want much 😁

I’ve attached a picture but so open to idea,

Also what hand do single 40 year olds wear ‘good’ rings on?

thank you

That looks like an ‘homage’ to a Boodles Raindance ring. They certainly do them with coloured stones but they are £££. Do you have an idea of budget?

Anonmousse · 31/10/2022 08:34

If you take the picture to an independent jeweller with a workshop they would be able to do something similar. They might take old jewellery in part exchange if you had anything you didn't like or wear any more. (Even broken chains/single earrings can be scrapped for cash)

It looks like the boodle raindance ring but there are lots of variations that are similar and a jeweller could work out a design depending on your preferences for the type of stone, and your budget.

Be aware tanzanites are softer than diamonds or sapphires/rubies and can "rub" if worn everyday but they will be safer in that type of setting (with metal all the way round) than when the edge if the stone is exposed.

I wear ‘good rings’ on both hands! Also, I’ve always bought my own rings. 🤷‍♀️ I started with one I called my ‘freedom ring’ many years ago. while you can find cheaper raindance rings on Etsy, I do wonder how they’d look in real life.

Don’t have a tanzanite ring, the stones break so easily. Mine lasted less than a week. Had it reset into a necklace for safety.

Emily Nixon have some gorgeous pieces

Very interesting that tanzanite is not a good quality stone for a ring! Also love sapphire as blue/purples my favourite colours.

Thanks for tips and also reassuring it’s fine to buy own ‘good’ rings

Why not just wear the rings you have? I'm a widow and wear my wedding and engagement rings on my right hand.
But of course you can buy yourself whatever you want!

bigblueyonder · 31/10/2022 09:17

Try either aurora jewellery for a redesign

Or Alison Moore

www.alisonmoore.co.uk/collections/rings

As both do bespoke jewellery and Alison works with a lot of different stones..

NatMoz · 31/10/2022 09:25

I'm not separated/widowed but i wear my engagement ring on my left and my wedding and another ring i was given following the birth of my child on my right.

Most European countries the men/women wear their wedding/engagement rings on their right hand anyway.

Do what you want! I certainly do🤣

Amberamethyst · 31/10/2022 10:03

I adore my eternity ring but my right hand is bigger than my left hand so it wouldn’t fit 🙈

TimeforaGandT · 31/10/2022 10:11

You could have your eternity ring re-sized to fit your other hand

Florence4170 · 31/10/2022 11:10

I love the Boodles Raindance ring! My friend has just bought herself one very similar but not the £££s. She sent me a link, I'll try to find it for you

Florence4170 · 31/10/2022 11:12

[email protected].
She paid £1500. I'm not sure if I can tell the difference.

Defiantlynot41 · 31/10/2022 11:13

How about this one? I have a similar one from the same jeweller and wear it on my right hand

dontgobaconmyheart · 31/10/2022 11:13

Anyone can buy or wear a ring surely? I'm not married (don't wish to ever be but am in a happy 16 year relationship), I choose my own jewellery, wear it on whatever finger I like depending on what I want to wear and don't really think about it. I certainly don't think it's shallow - just buy what you like and enjoy wearing it, it doesn't mean anything.

FlippertyGibberts · 31/10/2022 11:23

I was going to suggest Alison Moore as well.

xPeaceX · 31/10/2022 11:26

i like the boodles blossom ring,it's gorgeous. And not too engagement ring-y.
I nearly bought one for myself in an I love me from me to me kind of declaration! but other things came up.

kateandme · 31/10/2022 12:02

I wear my rings on both hands, any fingers. The one on my left even has a silver band with diamonds engaged look about it but never batted an eye and never had a question or problem from others with it.
incouldnt be ringlessn on either hand.

for those that wear rings.have you ever taken them all off and looked at your hands!?

Shitfather · 31/10/2022 12:15

Interesting thread. I had a very unusual and beautiful wedding ring. It only fit on one finger. I haven’t worn it since my divorce in 2018, but I will have it resized and wear it on the other hand. I, too, miss not wearing a nice ring and have been thinking of this for a few weeks. Your post has motivated me!
