What do I need from USA?

DH working away and can buy me stuff. What do I need? Blistex in a blue pot is a must and if he can find it there's a great cover girl foundation I like. Anything else more treat like? Any clothing basics?

Ooh I miss shopping in the US, especially for makeup, but I've not been in years so I'm not sure what's new. And if it's someone else buying for you it's tricky. I love Madewell jeans but those are hard (impossible) to buy for someone else. I also really like the t-shirts and tops from Aritzia and Everlane, although Everlane is available here too (their linen is nice).
And thrift stores. They are the best.

Sorry, not very helpful!

Exchange rates aren't great so you won't get many bargains. I'd only ask for things you can only get over there, and at a reasonable price tbh.

SnoopLabbyLab · 30/10/2022 09:52

Abraxan is right, the US is very expensive for UK visitors at the moment. I love clothes from Loft but they aren’t cheap even in normal times. I do like to stock up on melatonin in CVS though and that’s pretty cheap.

SuffolkBargeWoman · 30/10/2022 11:25

The exchange rate is terrible at the moment. I only buy stuff I can't get in the UK, melatonin, high strength Vitamin D gummies and Crest teeth whitening strips off the top of my head.

TimidOwl · 30/10/2022 11:33

If he's near a dollar store he'll likely find blue pot blistex for about 1.25

windmill26 · 30/10/2022 12:19

Crest whitening strips and toothpaste.

PomRuns · 30/10/2022 13:36

Bath and body works hand wash
Sephora sometimes have offers.
I quite like browsing in target but mainly for stationary/ home wear.
i found most of the make up more expensive tbh

Iflyaway · 30/10/2022 13:38

Razor in a box. Brilliant for travel.

Polkadotpjs · 30/10/2022 13:49

Hand wash at bath and body works was €25 plus tax for 5. Expensive individually though I thought.
My friend bought sleeping tablets.

Polkadotpjs · 30/10/2022 20:16

I got melatonin last time but they don't really work for me sadly.
Maybe I'll just ask for ALL the sweets for my boys' stockings.
I think Levis are still cheaper but don't need any

I get Solgar vitamins, much cheaper than in the uk

SailorGeri · 31/10/2022 04:29

I travel to the US for work frequently. A colleague told me about Unisom tablets which are excellent for sleeping, much better than melatonin. You can get them in any pharmacy.
I also buy Secret deodorant which is excellent. I buy Advil as you can buy big tubs of them and also Typenol PM, which is a painkiller for night time. I sometimes have headaches at bedtime so these help me sleep.
My friends love Downy spray, but it doesn't seem to work for me. And I also buy Neosporin, which is antiseptic ointment. Apart from Unisom the recommendations have all come from Mumsnet!

As an IBS sufferer I regret not bringing back more 'gas relief' chews. They have a while shelf of these things with about 300 in a bottle, that last for ages.

Maybelline snapscara.

We don't get much choice of colour mascara where I live and this I wish I'd bought more of as well.

If you wear Bobby pins in your hair, or have a dd that does, they sell pins that are slightly curved, so shape to your head. Such a random thing but they have been brilliant. I have never seen them anywhere else. Got them as CVS.

If you are into running /gymming I cannot rate Old Navy leggings highly enough. They are a cotton type fabric which are not see through at all and don't have that shiny look. And they wash so well.

Physician's Formula matcha green tea balm is really good at removing make up. Tom's of Maine for toothpaste and deodorant
