Is waterproof mascara still not great?

I'm going to a wedding and my current mascara isn't going to cut it. I remember waterproof mascaras used to be chunky and weird, and gave you four really big eyelashes.

Is it much better now? Any faves? Not worried re price, thanks!

Lancôme Idole - it's a tubing mascara so it comes off easily. Eyeko Beach Waterproof is so waterproof, even make up remover has a job of taking it off. I wear it when I need my makeup to be bulletproof and accept that I'll be wearing - at least some of - it for at least a couple of days!
