Stan Smiths or Nike AF1?

I'm looking for my HG of trainers. I wear Asics for running, and day to day, but am looking for something I can wear with a skirt/dress that don't look too much like I'm going to the gym. Also want to wear them for a city break coming up.

I've worn in 2 pairs of Veja and love the look, but underfoot they are so uncomfortable if I'm walking a lot. Have tried Air & Grace and didn't like at all. Not liking anything at Skechers or Fitflop so have narrowed down to either Stan Smiths or AF1.

Any comments, tips or pointers much appreciated. I can order both and try both at home, but I can't really tell just by walking about my house....

Oh. And I find it very hard to get leather SS’s now, it’s all vegan leather which is plastic, but AF1’s tend to be leather.

I’ve got both but they aren’t really similar trainers in my opinion.

AF1 are chunky and thicker looking and feeling. As in I’d go for those on a rainy or colder day.

SS are much less chunky more towards converse , although obvs not canvas style. But they have a lower sole, etc…

The New Balance don’t go with dresses or skirts at all. SS go very well with dresses and I wear them to work with cropped trousers etc.

I disagree, you just need to get used to the new look of a chunkier trainer. Plus NB do other styles that are sleeker.

Why aren’t AF1’s made in any other colour than white?

i love my white ones but it’s not good when it rains or is muddy.

I had the AF1 in black and couldn't get my head around the fact that they looked a bit like the special shoes I had to wear when I had hip problems as a small child.

The white don't seem to but the black just took me back and I can't see round it now👀

So I sold them on.

Which was annoying as there had been a special edition pair released with a little bit of leopard trim but cheapo me bought the plain pair in the children's dept and they couldn't bring myself to wear them.

Any black leather trainer with a black sole does that for me. I much prefer a white or neutral sole.

There are other colours out there though & Im sure you can custom the style through the Nike website.

I was told in JD Sports that they didn't come in black!

Agreed they probably look like special shoes in black.

I've got black/white Nike Internationalists but lethal in wet weather.

Any suggestions for nice black leather trainers?

I think the Stan smiths are less standard trainer like. I have these with the tortoise back and they are Really comfy.

both these are nice but as a plantar fasciitis sufferer/recoverer I need trainers with arch support!

Love my Juva trainers which are hardly trendy.

AF- I fine them quite narrow across the bridge of my foot.

SS- dated now I would say
