Gel vs acrylic

My nails do not cope well, generally they are strong, but even a week of gel leaves them weak for a month.

But I'm tired of never loving my nails. I have short, stubby, fat fingers. My nails also grow very fast, years and years ago I'd have acrylic, my friends would manage 3-4 weeks before an infill but within 2 weeks I'd be desperate.

My beautician does Gel for £22. So I start having regular gel (instead of just holidays/events) every 2 weeks...

Or go acrylic? There's a lady who seems amazing. £48 for full set. £32 infills. I'd hope to do 3weekly.

Thoughts: I cannot bare when gel begins to lift on the corner and it catches stands of hair vom literally makes me gag. We have a hot tub and my hands are in water alot which makes me think the gel doesn't last too well either.

The acrylics won't lift or chip, but I can't just whip off at home if I've had enough/can't get an appointment.

Gel cheaper, she comes to my home.

Acrylics more expensive and have to factor in children appointments.

I'm going around in circles here. The obvious answer due to nail health seems neither but I'm fed up of not feeling "put together" and am trying to make an effort to be "low key" smart. I don't wear make up so wear extentions (have great skin!) Keep my eyebrows smart, trying to be better with my clothing etc.

Any thoughts, beauty queen's? Im not good at this. Too easy to mumbun and ignore.

Could you do your own gels at home? I didn't think my nails grew fast but I hate the gap you get at the base, when your nails grow. I could happily have them done once a week but that's not feasible, time or money wise, so I sometimes do my own at home. The kit was about £20 and I bought additional colours. I don't always wear gel so my nails get a break too

I have considered this but I worry about screwing my nails because I don't really know what I'm doing 😅

I've had both in the past. Acrylics can and do lift and chip just like gel.

The removal process is pretty much the same too- soaking in acetone and I have frequently removed my own acrylics at home.

I found the gel slightly less damaging to my nails but there really wasn't much in it.

On the rare occasions I bother now I do my own gels at home. The kits are cheap enough and it isn't difficult.
