Scarecrow hair

What can I do to make my hair look presentable? All the new growth sticks out at right angles... I look like Worzel Gummidge ☹️ see pic below ⬇️
Any tips for taming? I don't like the plastered down look, still want to look natural. Hairspray feels too rigid, coconut oil doesn't give enough hold.
Wondered if I need a moisturising shampoo. Bought one off Amazon which didn't lather well, think it may have been a fake. Looking for some advice please!

Ps I'm posting this just before bed so if does reply, thank you and I will read in the morning

Proper shampoo isn’t supposed to lather!
Do you avoid silicone?
is you hair dry?

have you tried leave in conditioner - there’s one I’ve just looked at I’ll see if I can find the make

I’m confused… if you don’t want the shorter bits to stick out but don’t want the plastered down (sleek) look? I use a serum on my hair when I put it up in a ponytail to avoid the sticky outies, I just put some of my hands, then run my hands over the top and sides of my hair before I put it up in a pony or bun.

Is it new growth or broken hair? It looks about the length of where your elastic would be, so if you wear it up a lot, do you have a lot of breakage?

@Allsnotwell I do avoid silicone. Will try the shampoo again then thanks, was expecting it to lather up!
I think my hair probably is a little dry. Any recommendations for leave in conditioner would be very helpful 🙂

@sausage767 Assumed this new growth but it may be breakage. I always wear my hair up but I am careful when it's wet etc. Food for thought, thanks.
I mean I want the side bits not to stick out so it looks natural but don't want it slicked down flat against my head which happens when I use hairspray, and it's really hard. What serum do you use?

Bed Head sell a product called After Party which is good for smoothing without making hair look like a helmet.
