Nail varnish (home not salon) - how toxic is it and are there non-toxic brands?

Hi - was wondering how toxic is nail varnish and are there big variations in formulations - are any less toxic?

I have grown my nails finally and want to wear polish mostly to prevent me biting again and make them look smarter - but I am generally someone who avoids chemicals where possible.

Would be interested in thoughts please! I would be painting my nails myself at home.

I'd be interested in the answer to this too. I had a high risk pregnancy and avoided stuff like nail varnish when I was pregnant. Have since had cancer and generally want to avoid unnecessary chemicals that may be toxic.

I did find this info about Essie (one of the brands I was looking at today) - does this mean anything to you @Amarette ? www.essie.com/ingredients

From my reading it sounds like most brands have removed formaldehyde.
