Brilliant Basics?

Any recommendations for where to buy the basics like vest tops, leggings and anything else you can think of that is a basic wardrobe must have?
Don't have to be the cheapest as would like them to last but also don't want to spend a fortune for tops that will be going underneath other tops.

I only wear leggings in the house but Mint Velvet are the best I’ve tried.

Arket or Cos for basic t shirts.

dreamingofsun · 25/10/2022 09:08

my favourite leggings are from lands end and M&S and the vest tops are from weird fish, M&S and morrisons.....the latter were super cheap so not sure how well they will last

Eranzer · 25/10/2022 09:11

I've found H&M are great for basics. Agree with Morrisons too

KirstenBlest · 25/10/2022 09:12

M&S for leggings. Tu and Nutmeg are fine for t-shirts and around-the-house leggings.

lentilly · 25/10/2022 09:19

M&S for vests and leggings

Or H&M

Mymoneydontjigglejiggle · 25/10/2022 09:22

Most of my T-shirts and leggings are from Primark and they have lasted years. Definitely recommend. Also Next do really nice basic T shirts from around £6.50. I know you said money not necessarily a problem but no point spending tons unnecessarily!

KirstenBlest · 25/10/2022 09:26

I like Lands End t-shirts and Uniqlo for t-shirts but they aren't cheap. I wear white and black t-shirts a lot, and for those ones the cheaper ones are fine for everyday.

HeyBearILoveYou · 25/10/2022 09:27

I dig through my drawers for my new look long sleeve t shirts. I have hundreds but they're the ones I actively do the washing for

RevealTheHiddenBeach · 25/10/2022 09:28

I really like nutmeg for vests and m&s for t-shirts. I think its worth hunting for a really good fit - my shape is crap in primary vests but nutmeg are fab! Then I get over excited about all the colours...

illiterato · 25/10/2022 09:28

Hush do really good long vests in black, white and charcoal. Wash brilliantly. Great for layering

alwayscheery · 25/10/2022 09:32

Matalan are best for long line vest tops , and just a few pounds summer and winter colours vary . Next also have a wider colour range.
White grey and black from Matalan.
Khaki, and navy from next.
You may need to order.
Other colours available but the neutrals are best .

SealSquish · 25/10/2022 09:33

I’ve got some lovely leggings from ASOS, nice and thick (not see through), high waisted and comfy. Also had some nice ones from Sainsbury’s in the past.

Its not a place I would normally shop but I picked up some vests from matalan the other week. I’d gone in to look at homeware and picked some up on a whim. They are lovely! Bit of stretch so very comfy and longline, which I need as I’m all torso. Super cheap too! I’m going to go back and see what other colours they have as I only got black.

BillyAndTheSillies · 25/10/2022 09:34

Arket or Uniqlo for basics. I've just got some leggings from Adanola though and I'm converted, they're so soft and comfy - but functional when needed.

rhiannon1967 · 25/10/2022 09:44

I really like the 'base layer' tops from Cotton Traders. I buy the whi

rhiannon1967 · 25/10/2022 09:47

I really like the Base Layer tops from Cotton Traders. I buy the white in short and long sleeved. Great to wear alone as t-shirt or under a shirt or jumper. I'm a size 10-12 and I wear a medium.
They're really soft and just ever so slightly Ribbed- not really so that you can see, but they seem to be a bit more warm and cosy than a standard 'flat shiny' t-shirt!

Mercurial123 · 25/10/2022 11:49

Muji for vest tops.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 25/10/2022 12:20

I'd disagree with the recs for M&S t-shirts. They go out of shape quickly, and saggy on the neck. I won't buy any from there again. I do rate their jeans though, and some of their jumpers are good.

TheChosenTwo · 25/10/2022 15:49

I always recommend leggings from asos, the ones I get are in a 2 pack, I get them high waisted. They’re nice and thick, long, don’t bobble or sag and don’t go holey. I usually buy 2 packs of 2 at once so haven’t bought any for a while as I tend to just wear them in the house and not really when I’m going out, the same 4 pairs have lasted me a few years now.
i don’t wear vests!

thedevilinablackdress · 25/10/2022 18:35

Agree with Mint Velvet leggings
Like t-shirts and vests from Rapanui

AlmostTwo · 25/10/2022 21:46

Thank you so much for all the suggestions, some places I had never even heard of so will take a look at those.

Have already had a quick look at the mint velvet leggings and very tempted to treat myself.

Also like the sound of the Cotton Traders tops as I get cold easily so anything warm sounds good to me!

If you like colours, then Kettlewell Colours do lovely tops.
My favourite are the Hetta t-shirts (both short- and long-sleeved)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 26/10/2022 14:47

Camisoles rather than vests but I rate the Jigsaw lace ones really highly - they last forever.

Skala123 · 26/10/2022 14:56

Spanx leggings are absolutely the best. Pricey but last years and look really good
