Invisalign fixed retainer - wire keeps breaking

I finished my invisalign treatment 18 months ago. My fixed retainer wires have broken three times since then!

Is this normal? One time they broke after eating a piece of chocolate!

I'm considering having them removed as it's a pain to get them redone (the dentist always makes me have two appts when it happens too, once to review it and the second time to fix it) and they aren't nearby either.

What are my options?

Just wear a retainer at night. Our dentist won't fit the wires as he says it's impossible to adequately clean your teeth.

Mine broke after about 3 years and cost £180 to replace. If it goes again that's it

Thanks. If I take them out will it mean wearing the retainer every single night?
