I'm a middle aged woman who enjoys clothes but isn't prepared to suffer for them. I love that all summer I've been "allowed" to wear lose fitting dresses and trainers.

Now we've got to tights weather, the trainers won't do, so I'm thinking DMs?

However, I've heard they need a lot of breaking in?

The Cherry Red (Oxblood) ones would go with most of my dresses, with thick tights....

I have found the pascal style much more comfortable, they didn't really need any breaking in. They're not currently available in cherry red on the dr martens website, but can see them on other online retailers in a few different sizes.

Alternatively, have a look at Solovair (always recommend on here, but that's because they're very good!). They do lots of styles in cherry red and I think they're more comfortable than Dr Martens.

I have a pair of 1460s and they're comfortable now, but they did rub my ankle for a while and I've got a bit of a scar on the front of my leg! My friend lost all the skin off her heel in DMs.

However, I also have two pairs of the fur-lined ones and they're comfy from day 1. The Serena boots are probably the look you're after. I also have the Leonores but they're chelsea boots.

I have found the fur lined DMs require almost no breaking in although I have had to go up a size as I have wide feet and the fleece creates a snug fit.

I've tried a few styles, but not the fur lined ones. The only pair I've kept are the pascal, like Birkenstock's "soft foot bed", the pascal are comfortable from the start.

I also have a pair of solovair, but shoes not boots. I'm maybe a little older than you and I don't like hard leather around my calves.

Both of these are great with dresses and skirts. I also have a couple pairs of Shoe The Bear "Agda", they are comfortable from the start and very warm without being fur lined.

I have 5 pairs of DMs. 2 x pascal and 3 x 1460's.
I had heard horror stories about breaking them in but my feet must be immune as I've had no issues since day one.

I've got a few pairs of Solovairs. The sizing on them is weird because it depends on the last. Size N in one style might be too big and in another it might be ok. Generally, go down half a size.
