Elusive nice trousers

I'm desperate for some casual-ish autumn-winter trousers. I don't want jeans, leggings, harems, joggers, or anything too tailored/structured (no front creases!)

I'd like heavyweight wool or cord, or similar; warm material, not cotton or linen. I like barrel or relaxed-fit. Ideally I'd like them to have turn-ups, or to be able to turn them up (complicated by the fact that I'm 5' 10" and a size 8–10, so many trousers end up flapping round my lower calves...!

I think I basically want something like these Toast ones, but long enough (Toast trousers never are) and cheaper than £115. www.toa.st/collections/womens-trousers/products/barrel-leg-organic-cord-trousers-conker

Anyone?

I bought a similar pair to the Toast trousers you linked from COS last winter in navy. Looking on their website they have some nice cord trousers.

Seasalt do some Tall clothing.

DameHelena · 14/10/2022 13:02

Thanks! Seasalt aren't cheap though, are they? (although not Toast prices, granted).

Heavyweight wool or cord isn't going to be cheap.

I'd try Cos or Arket for what you're looking for.

Thank you; I quite like those but could do without the front crease, and would prefer brown or a greyish colour.

Re 'heavyweight', I wasn't very clear – I don't necessarily mean a heavyweight material per se, just warmer autumn/winter trousers as opposed to cotton/linen light ones.

No not 'cheap' but you stated 'cheaper than Toast'.
As a fellow tall person I think you'll struggle to find anything massively cheaper.

I know, I think you're right. I've ordered three different Seasalt pairs. We'll see!

Whistles have some cords. I'm like you though and always find they are too short on me (Toast - not sure about Whistles).

itsnotdeep · 14/10/2022 16:54

Whistles in the sale?

DameHelena · 14/10/2022 16:57

Thank you! I like both of those.

There are some in Cos

DameHelena · 14/10/2022 16:58

I like the Cos cut, but I don't really want black and think the green ones are a bit too Monty Don.

Ha ha, I put on a new outfit last week and asked DD whether I looked as though I was off gardening. She very kindly said no, but admitted that I might look like a geography teacher (I looked very good - or at least the clothes did - if there are any geography teachers reading).

M&S have quite a lot of cord trousers in a range of styles and colours and most come in a long leg length option. Not just their own brands but also Finery and Sea salt etc lthough there own are generally cheaper - in the £25-40 bracket.

Update (if anyone cares)
Got my Seasalt trews. I'm sending back one pair as they're just a bit boring, but keeping two: one is a navy cord pair that look for all the world like Toast (loose, slightly barrel-leg, nicely cut and stylish), for about half the price. The other are a lovely pair of slim-cord slim-cut trousers in an unusual olive/brown colour. Again, look more expensive than they are. And as they come in Tall fit, they're LONG enough!

Thanks everyone, and a special thanks to @Aworldofmyown for making me aware of the Tall range at Seasalt.

They sound lovely, how will you be styling them? Im always looking for inspiration.

DameHelena · 21/10/2022 12:07

I think the navy ones will be good with a skinny tucked-in polo neck (I've got some nice fine-knit Uniqlo ones in grey and black). Or a sweatshirt for really casual days; I've got a short-ish cream one that works well with higher-waisted trousers.
The slim olive ones I'll probably wear with chunky jumpers; I've got a couple in a slightly cropped length, a black and a navy one. And they looked quite good with the light knit I tried them on with, in green.
Thinking of digging out my brogues that I didn't wear last winter (as I seemed to be permanently in leggings or joggers); I like brogues with cords. I have a mid-brown pair and a yellow/ochre pair. Or I think they'll work with Converse, and maybe the slim ones will go with slightly chunkier, sportier trainers too, for a 90s acid jazz throwback look Grin
I also have some ankle boots with a low heel; will have to see how they look, but I can imagine them working well with both pairs.

DoodlePug · 21/10/2022 12:26

Sounds like you have a great wardrobe 😀

DameHelena · 21/10/2022 12:30

You're very kind Grin The brogues look a bit like boats as I've got large feet and quite thin legs. But <<shrug>> I like them.
