On the job market - what to wear for zoom interviews?

Please can I have some links of things you think would work for job interviews via zoom?
Applying for jobs in charity sector/education/arts and creative.

I like bright colours and pattern but I don’t want to appear too zany for an interview! I also don’t want to look washed out in plain black or something.

Obviously it’s the top half that’s important! I’m a 16, hour glass, large bust and narrow shoulders.

Any ideas? I haven’t interviewed for years and I’m feeling out of practice with all this! Thank you!

I follow thestylebob on Instagram & she has posted loads of tips for what to wear for zoom interviews, some great advice. She suggests bright block colours, but gives lots of other tips too.

I’ve had one recently. I went for a bright top with a large pattern. I own nothing that is plain and I figured that small pattern/stripes/polka dot might look odd on some screens. Fairly high neck so I didn’t have to worry about leaning forward and gaping. Then leggings on the bottom half 😁

More make up than you’d think. I look like a ghost On zoom without blusher.

I've done loads and most people interviewing me were more casual than I was used too from previous face to face interviews.

What you need to focus on is checking your camera, good lighting, working headphones, uncluttered but not blank background, and for me how to hide my double chin. Also, try and set it up so that people's faces are all the same size, it can be unsettling to have a large face so close to you.

Good luck.

Regardless of what you wear, adjust your camera to a flattering angle and distance, and ensure the background is uncluttered.

I didn't even realise this was a thing. I've worn a simple black jumper on zoom interviews - my main focus was on light/clean make-up and hair.

I work in arts/heritage/charity sector and had a zoom job interview this week which went well and I was offered the job. My last interview (for my current job) was also by zoom. In both cases I wore a simple round neck top in a dark colour. You can't see very much in a zoom call other than head, shoulders and neck and so clothes don't much matter IMO. I wore more make up than usual.

For both the recent interview and the previous one I paid far more attention to the lighting and the background. I also printed out my interview notes in an easy to read font size, single sided and laid them out next to my lap top so I had easy prompts for points that I might want to include.

Thank you! These are great tips. Yes, I really need to think about lighting. It’s far from perfect where I am set up at the moment with the autumn sun being quite low at certain times.
I have a very fair complexion so I look washed out in black at the best of times. The block colour suggestion is a good one.
