I’ve had a quick look through all the usual suspects, next, warehouse etc I don’t want to go on the one hand looking like his mother he is a bit younger than me and on the other hand I don’t want to like an old slapper either.

i’ve probably got 99% of what’s about to be suggested sat in my wardrobe I just need to get out can anybody give me some ideas for an outfit ?

I also feel the cold a lot so I’m conscious I don’t want to be dressed like I’m in Santorini in a typical UK town Centre

Look up Lydia Tomlinson on YouTube, her ‘sexy’ outfits are always classy and timeless.

LuckySantangelo35 · 12/10/2022 18:44

@babyyodaxmas

i think that looks a bit too much like a dressy work blouse

babyyodaxmas · 12/10/2022 18:45

Wow what kind of work do you do ?

AuntSalli · 12/10/2022 18:47

I definitely couldn’t wear that to work

No it doesn’t.

LuckySantangelo35 · 12/10/2022 18:57

Just my opinion that’s all 🤷‍♀️

An office worker for
example could deffo wear that

gold22 · 12/10/2022 19:06

I think it looks like work wear too- OP you're 37, not 77 you can wear anything you like!

What would you wear to a bar if you were going with friends? Do you like wearing heels?

gold22 · 12/10/2022 19:09

How about a blazer dress with heels

pantsville · 12/10/2022 19:09

I’d do a long sleeved satin shirt dress either with heels or tights and sock boots.

Pollyputthepeleton · 12/10/2022 19:10

I think something elegant, not sure if you want to show much skin or not but I like these looks;

Hmm …

old slapper

old tart

?

I’m out …

You were never in, to be fair.

OP I would go for, as above, a deep plunging clingy black top with leather or ‘coated’ trousers. Nice gold jewellery, perfume and make up. Good luck!

jumperoozles · 12/10/2022 19:16

Skirt

Skirt a bit like this one? To show off your nice legs. Then just some kind of plain fine knit jumper - could be oversized to look more laid back or tighter for a dressier look. Tights if cold and flat chunky boots or trainers.

I like this ☝

Or the black dress you have with the long coat and boots.

Hoolihan · 12/10/2022 19:28

Obviously you must wear what you feel good in but leather leggings/skinny jeans/cami tops/heels are a very dated look imo. I also don't get wearing a short dress with an ankle length coat - proportions are all wrong.

If you want your legs out I'd go for a short A-line skirt with a tshirt, tights and boots. Otherwise jeans, tshirt or shirt and boots. Personally I would aim for underdressed rather than over.

AuntSalli · 12/10/2022 19:31

See I suppose this is the thing I’ve only really started going to bars with friends work colleagues this summer so everything else that I’ve got was kind of to wear with white jeans or it was quite a summery dress.

I think I’m gonna get those boots and wear them with the black dress it’s so funny because everything you guys are linking I actually have but I’m too fat to wear at the moment 😭😭
I desperately need to get to the gym

I'm absolutely certain that attractive but 'dated' fashion will not put an otherwise keen guy off. I wouldn't wear trainers to a bar, especially for a first date.

What gets likes on MN demographic insta is not going to rouse the passions of a thirty year old guy.

Absolutely this. In fact, I'd say you could do a lot worse than go for the polar opposite of the styles favoured on MN. Few men are looking at shapeless midi dresses and chunky boots and thinking wow! No matter how old they are.
In a nutshell, men, unless they're into a particular style, or really into fashion, typically look at the woman not the clothes. So if you want him to appreciate your looks, go for clothes that flatter over fashion every time.

Hoolihan · 12/10/2022 19:34

This one is good and great styling. www2.hm.com/en_gb/productpage.1116187001.html

StupidSmallFruit · 12/10/2022 19:34

If you’ve got good legs, then surely a mini on a date with a guy you like is a winner.

@jumperoozles suggestion is great, especially with an oversized knit, if you’re feeling like you’ve put on a bit of weight.

I agree as well. ‘Fashion’ might attract the camp ‘Essex’ types with bleached teeth, but red blooded men want to see your figure in something figure hugging, smart and a bit sexy. And nothing weird/too ‘out there’.

Oh and make sure you smell good! I always wear nice perfume and have been complimented on that so many times by men.

But on the other hand I would feel like an absolute noodle if I was overdressed on a date so actually I do think it's worth considering how you'll feel in the clothes you choose, rather than just how you look.

AuntSalli · 12/10/2022 19:37

Yeah that burgundy mini is absolutely perfect and I’ve had a quick look at Lydia‘s YouTube videos apparently I’m to go baggy on top which works too because I’m a bit self-conscious around the old tumpy. So I’ve got like a Goldie coloured shirts that I could wear and do the French tuck thing. Still in two minds about those boots I’ve got until 11 pm to order them

SpanishSteps123Ole · 12/10/2022 19:41

Fuck me you're only 37! Unless your date is 20 you won't look like his mum, I'm sure of it!
I know you got loads of suggestions so far but I'll throw mine in the ring anyway: when I think of classy and sexy it's the little black dress! No cleavage, loads of legs since this is your asset and heels that you can walk comfortably in and if he is a tall guy. If he'll be short then don't wear heels.
For what it's worth, I don't think it's bad to say old tart, the male version is old perv and sleazy isn't it? I dont think it's misogynistic we all know the look you meant. Men and women can look cheap and try hard, it's neither misogyny or misandry to point it out.

katieg03 · 12/10/2022 19:41

I am the same age as you. I wouldn't wear the red patterned dress as I'd feel a bit frumpy. I'm a proper hour glass and I'd look like a cube.

If it was me I'd do black skinnies even though they are apparently out depend show glam maybe leather leggings. A satin shirt open and tucked in with a bra crop top under? Or you could do a pencil skirt and a coloured satin shirt. Zara have loads of lovely ones. They also have blazers with no lapel that are really well cut.

I have bought a couple of really nice pencil skirts from Tesco of all places!

The black dress you picked would be better than the red one I think.

Lots of things are cropped and string like now a days 🤣

A nice cut and blow dry always makes me feel a bit fresher..

SpanishSteps123Ole · 12/10/2022 19:44

Yeah I agree with you @5128gap
I think a bloke would rather see your figure, shape and best assets than whether the dress is 2019 or 2022.

DoingJustFine · 12/10/2022 19:44

High heels are very dated and if he’s under 30 it’s probably not a very attractive aesthetic to him

Really? Girls don't wear heels any more? Even when they're going out?
