Help with eye make up / skin tone

Livingonjuice · 11/10/2022 19:17

I don't look right in any of my make up any more. I'm peri and skin is drier so was thinking of getting some Tr*my stuff but then wondered if it was my colouring that's changed. My hair (naturally red / faded to strawberry blonde now) has golden tones and warmth but I think I've a cool skin tone as silver suits not gold and veins are blueish ? My eyes are weird non colour. I need sorting out. Pic of my eye for reference plus my face (you poor things )
Any advice on eye colour and make up to suit this old face ?! Thanking you, vipers

Not sure about make up. If you wear foundation, no 7 do a matching service still, I think? A good colour match base should actually be unidentifiable on your skin, to give you a base, rather than add colour iuswim. Trying it on hands is no good! Have you thought about just using an eyeliner, see how it looks? I tend to use brown, on top lid, and about a third in from the outer edge at the bottom, smudged in. Maybe a navy would be good, if you are cool toned? I think that once past about 40, less is more. For me anyhow. You look good btw.

CremeDeSudo · 12/10/2022 13:07

What about greyish colours? I'm cool toned, pale, fair (not gingery though) and I find greys/taupe colours are my best neutrals. Try Nyx Cool Neutrals palette for a mix of cool toned shades. I tend to go for pinky blushers. I've also read that you it's better to avoid black eyeliner as you get older as it's too harsh so maybe try a dark grey eyeliner?

Livingonjuice · 12/10/2022 20:41

Aw thanks. I think grey eyeliner is a good shout. I used to have a fab single pot of a lovely taupe eyeshadow and it was ace but I lost it on a trip and they don't do it now
Has anyone tried Trnny? I'm not trying to advertise her hence caution with the 🤣. That'll fox the algorithms for sure 🤣.

No I haven't but just looked on the site and it suggests pale pinky eyeshadows for me that I'd never pick out myself!

newyorkbreakfast · 13/10/2022 17:49

I don't know if you've tried this, but a Mac makeover is a good start. You can pay for eyes or full face and redeem the cost against the products they use. Every time I do it it gives me a lift.

Rina66 · 13/10/2022 17:59

I really like the Trinny make up, it's quick and the colours are lovely, I like the lip2cheek, so simple and the eye colours are great, they do a universal taupe which I have, Wisdom I think, and Chariot is a shimmering khaki which is so lovely. On you tube she does her make up in the back of a black cab, it's worth a watch.

Vincitveritas · 13/10/2022 18:25

I would recommend using an app to experiment with lots of different colours - there's free ones available, found YouCam on Google Play. If you're old enough to remember Color Me Beautiful, I would say you're a spring, like Amy Adams, Renee Zellweger and Scarlett Johansson. Suggested colours are salmon, watermelon, pastel pinks, coral, turquoise, golden greens and pale yellow.

Livingonjuice · 14/10/2022 09:40

I certainly am old enough and there's a colours shop near me but I darent ask how much it is and the quizzes online don't seem to match me - there's always at least one question I don't know the answer to!

I'm a cool summer and found it really helpful and very true!

When I had a Mac makeover they just chucked a load of browns at me and I looked awful. Maybe it depends who you have?

martinlily · 14/10/2022 09:51

Thanks for sharing this useful information.

DeadbeatYoda · 14/10/2022 11:01

I'm quite similar to you except my hair is browner. I think you'd look lovely with a nice, soft brown liner and light bronze - ish eye shadow to bring out the blue.
I use no.7 intelligent foundation which adjusts to my skin colour to give a semi-sheer covering ( natural look). Team that with a darker end of nude lipstick.

learieonthewildmoor · 14/10/2022 17:26

The Trnny stuff is great. Highly recommend the match2me.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 14/10/2022 17:33

Your skin tone looks like mine and I'm a definite neutral in foundation - I need a greyish beige with a touch of yellow which is surprisingly hard to find as most err too far pink or too far yellow. My eyes are a little bluer than yours but taupey brown eyeshadows moving towards bronze work well.

Vincitveritas · 14/10/2022 22:40

@Livingonjuice I took the online Color Me Beautiful quiz which, if I did it correctly, confirms the spring colouring.

The book (printed in 1983!) says:
'A Spring most often wears a light to dark peach foundation. She should avoid blue-pinks. Some Springs are pure ivory and are best in an ivory base, adding peach to the cheeks with blusher. Yellow bases are often called natural, ivory, peach, golden or copper. Springs must stay delicate and wear clear peach, coral or warm pink rouge, avoiding blue-pinks. Spring may wear peach, warm pink or coral. The pink should not be blue, and all of Spring's lipstick tones should be clear and not too dark. Some Springs do well in clear red, though most are better in softer tones. Spring is not the brown lipstick type. Springs must apply eyeshadow sparingly and blend it well; golden brown, apricot, smoked turquoise, golden green.'

Vincitveritas · 14/10/2022 22:43

Of course if you really do have a cool skin tone, ignore all of the above! 😁

Livingonjuice · 15/10/2022 16:39

I wish I knew for certain if I'm a cool or neutral skin. My hair has warm bits and I think I look better in white than cream. I'm in a petrol blue (I think that's what it is - darker than airforce but not navy ) and that really suits me. My MIL is an absolute definite cool - pale pink and blue all the way
Would we say my eyes are more blue or grey? Are the colours we are drawn to what we should wear? Shall I do one eye in brown and one in black eyeliner for us to review? Loving your help so thank you v much

Did the quiz and based on me selecting grey green eyes I'm spring. I'll try it again with blue grey

Would you be a Light Spring or Light Summer ?
Light Spring has reddish or golden tones in their hair and suit gold jewellery.
Light Summer is more ashy - blonde or brown. Silver jewellery suits best.
Check out The Concept Wardrobe.

Livingonjuice · 15/10/2022 18:30

Gold jewellery definitely doesn't look good

hassletassle · 15/10/2022 18:36

I've got the same colouring and use taupe shades from Mac .

hassletassle · 15/10/2022 18:41

Haux is a nice one

Livingonjuice · 15/10/2022 19:44

Tried brown on one and dark grey on another eye. Can't tell any difference !!

So hard to tell on screen Livingonjuice, but I'd go with the brown one looking better. If gold doesn't suit it probably means you've got cool undertones which would make you a light summer as LadyEloise said. Your eyes look grey green to me. The book says...

'Summers wear foundation with a rose base. A Summer usually has noticeable pink in her skin and needs a base that looks pink and blends with her jawline. Summers should wear rouges in the rose family, ranging from blue-pink to burgundy. Summer needs a softer lipstick than her Winter counterpart. Her pinks will be best in light shades. She may also wear burgundy and plum tones. The brownish pinks and plums are okay if they are not too dark. Brown eyeshadow...makes Winters and Summers look tired and drab. Summers should not use dramatic eye makeup. Always blend well and keep subtle; grey green, ash blue, mauve, plum eyeshadow. Grey or charcoal eyeliner.'

Best way of checking whether you're cool or warm is to try putting some gold or yellow material under your chin. If it makes you washed out and sallow looking then your skin has cool undertones.
