Magic Trousers - magic or lazy ??

shmiz · 11/10/2022 12:31

Hi -
I’ve bought some magic trousers -
they feel very comfy and very easy to wear in that they seem to suit a range of tops -
I’ve been wearing them with pop socks and DM shoes, trousers hitched up to look 3/4 length with a t shirt, blouse or cotton top
I’m torn between thinking these are indeed ‘magic’ ie great ….or …
they are not much different to a pair of leggings or jeggjngs but look frumpier and lazier on a fifty something size 14 woman !!!

I've got several pairs in neutrals (black/navy/tan) plus a pair in stone camouflage print. I think they're great. I wear them rolled to 3/4 length with a t-shirt french tucked at the front, denim jacket/canvas jacket and trainers. Indoors with a hoodie (I've got a pair on at the moment). I think they're great, comfortable and definitely better than leggings. I bought mine online during lockdown and they were much better than jeans for working at home. They are also really comfortable for travelling - I wore a pair for an 8 hour car journey to Wales over Bank Holiday weekend and they were fine.

To add context, I'm 60 (just!) and a size 14.

What are magic trousers?

What are magic trousers?

Yes. This. I'm off to Google them.

MistyRock · 11/10/2022 18:07

Google tells me they are tighter jogging bottoms. They look very comfy.

Sago1 · 11/10/2022 18:09

I love mine, I started a GN thread about them in the summer, a number of “Grans” bought them and have loved them.

Threadkillacilla · 11/10/2022 18:10

Is there a link for these ere magic trousers?
Asking for a friend..

plasticdragon · 11/10/2022 20:57

If they are one size 8 to 16 I would imagine they don't feel quite so stretchy if you normally wear a size 16

buttons123456 · 11/10/2022 22:01

I've got loads which I wear with a vest in the summer ! I can confirm they are super comfy but not the most flattering things!

They are essentially stretchy trousers in a jogger style

CampervanKween · 11/10/2022 23:26

I think they're hideous sorry. I bought some in the summer on the strength of another thread about them. They went in the charity bag straight away. Looked terrible imo.

Rina66 · 12/10/2022 04:37

Love mine, there's a big difference in quality and fit though - I like the thicker fabric and a back yoke seam. I've even got leather look ones. I'm a 14, I think they are so flattering and mean I'm happier to wear shorter tops, whereas with leggings, jeggings or skinnies I'd only wear thigh length tops.

Cantonet · 12/10/2022 07:20

Step away from them.
They are the preserve of middle aged women who need to lose weight. They always seem to be sold by boutiques who sell one size fits all items.
There is also nothing Magic about them, as they don't stay up & are generally a horrible, sweaty, synthetic fabric.

And they are a tad too big if you are at the lower end of the size range, but my goodness they are comfy.
They are too short if you are tall as well. I don't want to wear rolled up trousers at this time of year.

theDudesmummy · 12/10/2022 07:28

I am a "middle aged woman who needs to lose weight " and I ordered some of these after the thread about them a few months ago. They were awful and I sent them straight back. Back to good old M&S flat front stretchies for me!

OneFrenchEgg · 12/10/2022 07:30

Oooh I don't think I'm ready for them just yet although my menopausal belly is keen

Cantonet · 12/10/2022 07:33

So am I @theDudesmummy 😊
I think Rina has shares in Manamou.
Go for M&S side striped wide legs.
So much more flattering

CinnamonJellyBeans · 12/10/2022 07:47

I'm with @Cantonet

Dress for your size, big or small, there's plenty of lovely stuff out there. I looked at magic trousers after reading about them on here and they look like you have "given up" on yourself.

babyyodaxmas · 12/10/2022 07:52

For the love of all things Holy just no, in the link up thread they manage to make the (presumably) silm model look like a sack of potatoes- why ?

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 12/10/2022 07:55

Isaidnoalready · 11/10/2022 18:03

What are magic trousers?

I think they featured in Wallace & Gromit's 'The Wrong Trousers'

Ccoffee · 12/10/2022 07:58

I just looked at the link and expected to be horrified...but I quite like them, they look comfy for wfh.

I wouldn't be wearing them out of the house much though I don't think, and definitely not with the top tucked in. Also can't imagine how the one size fits all scenario works.

ImAvingOops · 12/10/2022 07:59

I don't think they look better than leggings or nice fitted joggers tbh.

buttons123456 · 12/10/2022 08:12

As with everything it's how you style them , the leather ones are great and so comfy .
I'm a 8/10 and some can come up a bit big but I get them from eBay fro about £15.. no need to pay the 'boutique ' prices as they are pretty much all the same .

Rina66 · 12/10/2022 09:23

Isn't it funny how we're all so different? Real love or hate for the magics!
I don't consider myself middle aged (although I am), I am a size 14 with a bit of tummy, also wear M & S boyfriend and Lily straight leg jeans which I often recommend too, so I think I like to be quite stylish. I like the one size clothes because they fit and are comfortable, inevitably Zara might fit my hips but not my waist, M & S jackets fit my boobs but are too big on my arms. I've just ordered Spanx leather leggings from Next, but had to order a 12 and a 14 as who knows what they'll be like - one size is usually a safe on line order and I like to order a lot, those £5 postages add up (I also recommend Kit & Kaboodal, Elsie's Attic, No Angel, Bows Boutique but buy more from Manamou) and I want to know it will fit.

CremeDeSudo · 12/10/2022 13:08

I bought some after seeing them recommended on here but I really didn't like them. Basically joggers in a cheap fabric that looks a bit creased!
