Extra long sleeved base layer tops

Recommendations please! I am 5’ 10” with very long arms and they all come up a little short - I like thumbholes in some such garments but the holes are usually half way up my wrist!

Really need a few super stretchy lighter/breathable ones for outdoor exercise and maybe a few thermal /merino or similar? Would be ideal if they were nice and good enough to wear as a normal top day to day at home /out to the shops/on video calls…must be very soft and comfy, I have sensory issues with anything slightly restrictive or scratchy, definitely no tight and high necks. Not asking for much am I 😂

I’m the same, long legs too. I just buy mens large. Sometimes need to nip them in a bit under the boobs but I find only mens really fit for length.

EVHead · 08/10/2022 17:34

Uniqlo have quite long sleeves. I always have to push them up.

WhereAreWeNow · 08/10/2022 17:47

I have the same problem with sleeves being too short and having cold wrists. I have some nice Gap sports tops which are a really soft (synthetic) fabric with long sleeves and thumb holes. Not sure if they still do them.

WhereAreWeNow · 08/10/2022 17:49

Annoyingly Gap don't seem to do them anymore but they're v similar to these Sweaty Betty tops www.sweatybetty.com/athlete-seamless-gym-long-sleeve-top-5059121384600.html?gclid=CjwKCAjwv4SaBhBPEiwA9YzZvJjcU3JUDDgTAzp9DHoD9W3Uw58UVc2-J9-H8r-31PbJgcX8lEYMxBoCqzIQAvD_BwE&oldpid=5059121384600

Merino wool tops from Cos

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 08/10/2022 17:58

Uniqlo for everyday / thin base layers. Also SOME M&S ones (I like the scoop neck ones).

Icebreaker for merino wool thermals that can be a top in their own right but they are pricey(ish).

Interestingly, the hands down best thin base layer I have (I can spend a lot of time outdoors for work and need to be ‘free’!) is a silk one from Lands End. My mum bought it for me when I was heading to Norway for work. I was v sceptical - it’s amazing. Super thin, super warm, super comfortable.

I’m 5’9 with long limbs too.

happystory · 08/10/2022 17:59

Uniqlo Heatech - wouldn't be with them!

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 08/10/2022 18:35

Patagonia and Smartwool are pretty long limbed, and worry the investment. I still wear a Patagonia baselayer I bought in 1996!

ChangePlease · 08/10/2022 19:42

@WhereAreWeNow that SB one is actually very nice and on sale - brand usually fits me well so might take a punt! Thanks 😊

I have a couple of Uniqlo jumpers which are a little short in the sleeve so had ruled them out tbh…

I have quite a few of the Hush extra long, stretchy cotton tops, sleeves are also long, they are really good quality and wash and last well.

ChangePlease · 08/10/2022 19:52

That’s interesting @shewhomustbeEbayed as I like Hush stuff but don’t find it good quality/ doesn’t wash well! Maybe only certain things

Should read "worth" the investment.

bravotango · 08/10/2022 21:13

The Uniqlo heat tech are quite long armed - rather than the jumpers (the ones that come in a packet)

genuinelyaskingforafriend · 08/10/2022 21:14

ASOS are great as they do a "tall" range but in all different sizes from a size 4 upwards!

WhereAreWeNow · 08/10/2022 21:17

I live in Uniqlo heat tech tops from about September to April but I don't find them very long in the arm. Not sure they'd be long enough for OP.

liveforsummer · 09/10/2022 08:57

Decathlon have unisex ones so might be worth checking out

MotherofPearl · 09/10/2022 08:59

OP I am a little shorter than you but have ridiculously long arms. I've just bought a heatgen top from M&S to try and the sleeves are plenty long enough for me - even slightly too long. Worth a try?

FiddleFigs · 09/10/2022 09:11

Lindex do lovely merino base layers. I’m 5’10” too and they fit well. Except the sleeves don’t have the thumb loop cuff. But COS have some of those in at the moment.

Have you looked at Bam- Bamboo Clothing?

Carrieonmywaywardsun · 09/10/2022 09:28

Suprisingly primark has good basic long sleeves. They're long in the body and arms

Mens ones for the extra arm length?
