How long does your hairdresser leave bleach highlight foils in your hair to process?

So a new hairdresser is saying that he will put bleach foils in my hair first then move onto tint all over in between the foils. He said he would then process it for 45 mins from when he’s finished placing all the colour so he said this would take up to 1 and a half hours as it would take 30 mins to get all the colour on. That would mean that the some of the bleach highlights would be processing for up to an hour and a half which sounds like a very long time for bleach to sit in hair. My hair is already processed and very fine. Does this sound ok? I’m very nervous about damage.

I have no idea, but the last time I had highlights done, they overprocessed it- and the hair was coming out in the foil! They didn't tell me, and when I put my glasses back on- I saw all the little spiky, broken off bits sticking out! My hair had only had semi colours before that- so was in excellent condition.

Sorry I can't help, but a hopeful bump for you.

Honestly I would find a hairdresser who doesn't use bleach. Only bad colourists use bleach and toner when they could just get it right with peroxide the first time!

@MarmiteCoriander
Gosh, that must have been awful.

@SavingsThreads
I asked if he could use high lift tint instead but he said as my hair is already dyed, he needs to use bleach to lift it?

Mines on for 15-20 minutes at the most.

I have fine, mid to dark blonde hair anyway (darker at back, lighter at front).

My highlights usually take about 1 hour from putting on to getting them washed off.

She starts mine and it takes about 20 mins to put them all in. So the first ones start cooking first. Then she leaves me for about 20 mins after she finishes the last one and checks on me to see if they’ve cooked after about 15 mins.

I have mousy hair so it’s a bleach foil and a tint foil I get on alternate rows of foils. With a row left out in between.

I don’t have bits breaking off.

Had mine done today - one hair for her to put all the foils and then root tint on. 30 mins until the basin.

One HOUR

My foils can take up to an hour to go in and then sit for about 30 mins with them all on. They are 3 shades of blonde so there must be some bleach in there.

My hairdresser does roots first, then foils. It takes about 20-30 minutes for her to check my hair, mix and apply, then the whole lot cooks for about 30 minutes. Then wash, cut and blow dry. I’m usually in the salon for about 1hr 45 in total. Some of my foils are bleach, but a very low solution. My hair was once dark brown and is now a salt and pepper mix, but dyed to a golden blonde with 2-3 colours of highlights, so it’s a fair amount of work and heavily processed. I’ve never had any breakage or damage at all and my hair looks very healthy. My colourist is a goddess!

What are you talking about? Peroxide is the developer and you need to mix it with bleach surely?

dementedpixie · 08/10/2022 09:16

Takes about 1 hour to put in. Left on for 30minutes

bonkerstonkers · 08/10/2022 09:20

Once all my coils are in and tint is also on, my hairdresser leaves it for 35 minutes. Smile

PonyPals · 08/10/2022 10:15

Had it done today. One hour to get the foils in and then she washes the first side and leaves the other half of the hair to cook for 30 min. All up takes 2 hours.
