Box dye roots only ?

Does anyone box dye their roots but not the rest of their hair?

Box dye dries mine out so I'm thinking about just doing the grays at the roots. Has anyone done it? Will it end up looking 2 tone?

Can I use half the colour and half the activating liquid then use the rest a few weeks later?

Following as I’m doing mine tomorrow.

I have done just my roots before although had a balayage so it looked fine.

If you do then go a shade lighter. The remaining hair will have faded and box dyes tend to be darker anyway. Brush it through 5 minutes before the end, spray with some water as it will have dried out a little.

I do my own hair, always have. I do my roots and then brush through after about 15m. I use really good quality conditioner between dyes.
