Hunting for a dress to hide my distinctly apple shape for an autumn wedding. Dress code - smart / casual.

Having traipsed around shops this morning all the dresses seem very high necked, floral or silky. Looking for a plain, flattering dress if possible? Doesn't need to be super smart - would be good if I could wear it again maybe to work. Budget of £150 max. I'm size 18, weight around stomach. Will be with small children so looking for something practical. Grateful for any suggestions?

How about this if you really want something not dressy but striking. Sizing guide suggest it will fit.

MuddlerInLaw · 03/10/2022 12:55

Bargain but possibly too casual? Could be dressed up though.

stripeymonster · 03/10/2022 14:58

Thanks both interesting choices. I really liked the second one but wish the green one which is sold out in my size.

No suggestions atm OP, but those other two PP suggestions are 🤢 I'm the same size and you may as well wear a sack than those monstrosities!

There have been great suggestions here before for a company that does amazing dresses for those big of curve. I can't remember it for now but hopefully someone else will be along with the name soon. I'll be back if I remember!

Size 18 apple shape does not mean wear a baggy mumu!
Hobbs fit and flare dresses are flattering for big tummies.

I'm an apple size 18/20 znd I have this dress which looks a lot better than the pictures! (The last pic shows it better)

I've worn it to a wedding and to dinner at the Savoy and to work. Really comfortable and flattering.

I wore it with these boots (no I'm not the seller ha ha!)

The Hobbs dress is fabulous!

stripeymonster · 04/10/2022 19:45

Lots of choice- excellent thank you. Like the Hobbs one too but not sure I'd prefer sleeves. Ebay one good too but seller won't accept returns. Kate Barton one most tempting because I could wear boots with it and wear it for other occasions. Lots to think about . Thanks for your help.
